Cubao will never be the same again. Popular and well-loved restaurant-bar ‘Today x Future,’ dubbed TxF, just announced their closure today and its patrons, mostly comprised of the LGBT community mourn as they lost what used to be a “safe place” for them to gather and have fun.

It was through their Instagram account that they released their statement, “Today x Future is closing. After long days and nights of deliberation, wrestling options and way too much alcohol to cushion the emotion, we are left with the decision to say farewell. We would have turned 12 years old but alas, the uncertainty has made it incredibly difficult.”

“Thank you for letting us be your space, your home where you grew up, fell in love, fell out of love, discovered so much, learned a lot, met so many people we’re sure you hold close until now. Thank you for letting Today x Future be part of your lives,” it added.

Memories with Today x Future

Countless memories are forever marked in that nightclub where people eat, drink, and share moments together for the last 12 years. It was famous for being “literally one of Cubao’s hottest spots where many queer and trans people converge,” according to many reports and reviews.

After the sad news broke out, TxF received overwhelming support and sympathy online with various hashtags emerging such as #KwentongTxF where netizens who frequently hung out there shared their unforgettable experiences.

With a heavy heart, TxF expressed its gratitude to its tireless staff and crew, as well new and regular performers and promotors who kept them afloat.

However, its sister bar located in Poblacion, Makati ‘Futurist’ will remain open, the announcement assured.

Prior to today, TxF launched an online initiative “#SAVEOURFUTURE” in hopes to sustain its operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They also joined in fundraising to help its staff survive the effects of the lockdown and donate to frontliners working in hospitals.

It may be a sad day for the community, TxF and its patrons remain hopeful they will meet again someday over drinks and a party that will surely be one for the books once more. Until then, more power!
