Here’s why I think my favorite local bands are underrated

OPM is not dead! With a high number of bands and solo musician artists right now, OPM has really come back to its life more than in the past years. But listening to OPM, which has a past-vibe kind of music, is so nostalgic. So here are my favorite local bands that feel underrated to know.

Bandido

This band isn’t your typical OPM music. It reminisces the old school rock. Their music reminds me of Eraserheads, Siakol, and Kamikaze with a touch of melancholic wordings that you can hear from the local streets of Metro. The songs mostly tell a story of the typical Filipino struggle to survive everyday life. It comes in the form of different types of love stories.

Tanya Markova

Everyone from the early 2000s has already listened to Tanya Markova, but I will always include them in the underrated band. This band gives humor and, at the same time, good plot story music. They are sometimes called “Clown of OPM.”

Banda Ni Kleggy

Although they are already an old band of OPM, I just discovered this band last year when I was at my friend’s benefit gig. This band was one of the performers. And I never thought they were the singers of most songs I usually listened to on the radio before. Their music, “Discolamon,” is one of my recommended songs from them. They will give the 80s to 90s vibe that will make you want to dance with them.

The Ransom Collective

I was in the 10th grade when I discovered The Ransom Collective through my classmate who loved indie bands at that time. Their music will give you the nostalgia of folk-vibes kind of music. It feels refreshing to the ears and heart. So, try this band if you want something that will make you feel serenity. They also never failed to make me more inspired and have a reflection on my life.

Wolfgang

No, it’s not a steak. This alternative rock band will make your head bang in Tagalog. They started way back in 1992 and are now not actively producing music but stayed legendary in the alternative rock world of OPM.

Most within this list might be oldie bands, but I promise you that they are all chef kiss! I wish to listen to these bands in one music fest someday.
