He Who Feeds The Nation: A Farmer

A farmer spends his entire life working in the fields. He works hard and waits for the fruits of his labor. Spending his life cultivating crops for the benefit of others; he is the farmer, one who provides food for the whole nation.

He Who Feeds The Nation: A Farmer

Farmers are the backbone of every country. They raise crops, livestock, farmland, and a variety of other things. They are the primary source of raw materials for our food industry. From our breakfast to our evening supper, everything is sourced directly from farmers. We can say that we can’t live without food, and we certainly can’t live without farmers.

“Farmers are important because we feed the nation with the food we produce, and I’m doing this for my family,” says Gaudencio Mendoza, a 53-year-old farmer from Batangas. He has spent his entire life cultivating crops. He rises early and starts working on the farm before the sun rises, where he continues to cultivate the land until the afternoon

Farmers are the unsung heroes of the world.

That’s how Gaudencio goes on with his day; sweating profusely and working with his carabao in the scorching heat of the sun. However, he never complains. If you ask him if he’s tired, he will tell you that he isn’t. He will work even harder to give his five children a brighter future.

Gaudencio and all farmers would never admit it, but they are the great masters of sustainability and dedication. Farmers are the unsung heroes of the world. They are in charge of all crops and livestock that we need to survive. Without food, the world would certainly perish, and farmers work tirelessly to keep plenty of crops and farm products to feed the people.

However, most of the people that farmers feed do not recognize their contributions, which is the real challenge—not the scorching sun on the field.

Farmers work longer hours but earn less money. Indeed, many crises put farmers in challenging situations. With that. they do not want their children to follow in their footsteps and suffer the same fate.

And despite the Philippines being hailed as an agricultural country, Gaudencio observed the lack of concrete agrarian programs. The circumstances force farmers like him to take their grievances to the streets and complained about the government’s lack of adequate support. They have to do this in order for the government to recognize the real issue.

Fortunately, this does not deter them from working in agriculture because it is where they get the money to meet their own needs. Perhaps for some, but not for Gaudencio and his fellow farmers in Nasugbu. He went on to say, “Who would produce enough food to feed the nation if we stopped?”. But, if their concerns remain unaddressed, he stated that there is a possibility that more agricultural workers would stop farming.

Farming is a challenging profession that necessitates hard work, patience, and a lot of effort. But farmers remain undervalued, and the government’s actions continue to fall short of addressing all of the farmers’ problems. We must step forward to help the farmers of our nation, including Gaudencio Mendoza.

The farmer is a symbol of perseverance and dignity. Because of the farmers, you lived yesterday. Because of the farmers, you are alive today. You will live tomorrow as well, thanks to the farmers. We began to know the struggles that farmers endure only to provide us with food, but how much do you really value them?
