Asus ROG phone 6: The Beast is back!

Asus has unveiled the latest iteration of their ROG phone in the form of the Asus ROG phone 6 and Asus ROG phone 6 Pro.

Back in 2018, Asus graced us with their first Republic Of Gamers phone. Their ROG phone had monster specs to make it the most powerful and capable gaming device. It had an AMOLED 90HZ display, a Snapdragon 845, and up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Beastly indeed. And, this was way back in 2018. 4 years later, the competition has already caught up. So, it’s that time again for Asus to let a beast out of its cage.

Asus is back with their latest incarnation of this monstrous gaming phone. On paper alone, the Asus ROG phone 6 wipes the competition without a sniff. And, to make it even better, Asus gave us two models in the form of the Asus ROG phone 6 and Asus ROG phone 6 Pro. Both phones possess the common formula for a gaming phone which is big specs all the way. The ROG phone 6 is also the only phone you’ll ever need. With that said, it’s time to get into some of the defining details of this monster of a gaming phone.

Lets start with the display. Both models of the ROG phone 6 features a huge 6.78 – inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2448px and a whopping 165 hertz refresh rate and 720 hertz touch sampling rate. This display not only pops, it’s also smooth and quick. Because, with its display, you get a maximum brightness of 1200 nits in auto mode. And, apart from the 165 hertz refresh rate, you can also set the display on 144Hz, 120Hz, 90Hz, or 60Hz.

The display on both models of the ROG phone 6 has an under-display optical fingerprint sensor. And, for both models, the display is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. A flagship level protection to keep the display from getting scratched.

The performance of the Asus ROG phone 6

Really? Do we need to say more? I think we all know that the Asus ROG phone 6 will perform like a monster. This is because Asus has made it better than ever. Both models of the ROG phone 6 have better thermal management that can lower CPU temperatures by ten degrees Celsius. And, when paired with their latest Aero Active Cooler 6, the thermal cooling on this phone goes to the next level!

Why does cooling matter? Well, a cooler phone generally performs better. This is because when a phone gets hot whilst gaming or performing a heavy task, something called “Thermal Throttling” occurs which lowers the phone’s performance levels. So, with the ROG phone 6’s improved thermal cooling and the Aero Active Cooler 6 which uses a thermoelectric AI cooling system, the surface temperature is cooled by up to 25 degrees Celsius. So, this phone is cool. Literally cool.

That’s not the only thing that helps this phone perform like a beast. The Asus ROG phone 6 and the ROG phone 6 Pro both uses the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The non-Pro version has 12 or 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM while the Pro version gets up to 18GB of RAM. Both models have non-expandable storage. But, with an option of either the 256GB or 512GB UFS 3.1 storage, do you even need more?

Lets talk about the design

For the ROG phone 6, Asus brought back the programmable AirTrigger ultrasonic buttons on the right side and back panel of the device. These buttons let you map controls for supported games. Adding to the amazing gaming experience, the Asus ROG phone 6 also has dual front-facing speakers, triple microphones, Dirac Virtuo Spatial Audio, and a headphone jack. And yes, we still need a headphone jack! This is especially beneficial for gamers who want zero latency when using headphones while playing games.

Does the Asus ROG phone 6 have cameras?

Duh. Of course, it does. Although I would say that with gaming phones, cameras are not the biggest focus. But, Asus still packed a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor for this device, as well as a 13MP ultrawide shooter and a 5MP macro camera. The selfie camera is a 12MP Sony IMX663.

As for video recording capabilities, the phone is capable of recording at 8K at 24FPS, 4K at 30/60/120FPS, 1080P at 30/60/120/240FPS, and 720P at 480FPS. The camera also comes equipped with a gyro-EIS for stabilization.

So, you can’t exactly say that the Asus ROG phone 6 is lacking in this department.

What about the battery life of the phone?

The battery life and performance of the Asus ROG phone 6 are also fitting for the gamer phone status. The phone has a 6,000mAh battery which is split into two 3,000mAh cells. Wired charging on this phone is at 65 watts which can get you to 100% in 42 minutes.

And as for charging ports, you get two. One on the bottom and one on the side. So you don’t have to stop gaming just because you need to charge. I mean, those ranked matches are very important, right?

The Asus ROG phone 6 also comes with advanced charging features including Steady charging which lets you control charging speed, and Bypass charging which lets you stop the charging process during gaming. These features help extend battery life and battery performance of the Asus ROG phone 6.

So, should you dare?

Asus says that the ROG phone 6 and the 6 pro are for those who dare. With the Pro version priced at around 74,086 Pesos and the non-Pro version starting at 56,976 Pesos, will you dare to go for it? This beast of a phone has a monstrous price to match. Both phones are almost identical, the only difference would be the RAM capacity. So, if I had some cash to spare, I would go for the non-Pro version. I think it’s plenty enough in terms of brute power plus I also get all the good bits of the phone as well. However, If you want to go all out, what’s stopping you?

The Asus ROG phone 6, like all other ROG phones that came before, aims to impress. It spoils us with big specs and awesome gaming performance. Whether you’re a serious or casual gamer, you can still enjoy what this phone brings to the table.
