VP/Xclusives | A WOMAN’S CREED: Jasmine Omay on Her Universal Truth

Jasmine Omay

Jasmine Omay has conquered the world by living her purpose, and now she is set to push further as she speaks her universal truth through a woman’s creed.

A few months ago, Jasmine captured us in her enigmatic royal blue gown gracing the stage of Mall of Asia Arena on the coronation night of Miss World Philippines 2024, where she won as the prestigious pageant’s 1st Princess. On the other hand, beyond the wit and charisma that she exuded throughout the competition, her heart that covets not only the title but the chance to live her role in serving the community through the causes she believes in carved her name in the hearts of many.

After winning a title, Jasmine spent most of her time living true to the mantra: beauty with a purpose. She consistently used her platforms to serve the community and empower others through inspiring them. Along with her sisters in pageantry, Jasmine brought hope, through relief operations, to the families in Quezon City affected by Typhoon Carina. The beauty queen also served the people through sharing her talent with the world, hosting, especially events that recognize the power of women and platforms that amplify their voices.

Pushing it even further, Jasmine speaks at several events that invite her in celebration of Women’s Month. And just right in time, we had a conversation on the same period when the world celebrates individuals like her—empowered, inspirational, and purposeful. As we spoke, Jasmine Omay wrote the woman’s creed through her stories and reflections, revealing her universal truth.

Doctrines of Change and Consistency

Early Monday morning, after walking her dog, Jasmine showed up to the interview with enthusiasm and seemed so excited to get into the conversation and share her stories. Now that it has been months since one of the biggest nights in her pageant journey, she has had to adapt to many changes in her schedule, explaining why she also just came from a flight when we spoke. Although changes became integral parts of her life, Jasmine has upheld consistency in her journey towards the present, constantly persisting, adapting, and showing the world what a woman is capable of.

But this philosophy and irony of consistency through the changes emerged, not only when she began harvesting the fruits of her persistence and dedication. It came into her realization early in Jasmine’s journey towards the space she never thought she would feel at home seven years ago. “I started joining pageants when I was 18, and it was an unexpected turn of events for me kasi at the time, I wanted to know where I wanted to be headed,” she says. And from that point, she encountered the world of pageantry that goes beyond its glitz and glamour, but is a platform of empowerment for herself and others.

“I felt confident. I felt powerful. I felt like pageantry is something I’ve been taken away from. I feel like it’s my home and it changed me—my point of view, the way I see things.”

Pageantry brought her not only changes but countless opportunities that made her discover the many versions of Jasmine that she never saw, even in her wildest dreams. “It also allowed me to become a private pilot, all because of pageantry… Ako, I never thought of flying. We know how expensive it is. And yes, I felt lucky and honored na this is where pageantry brought me. It’s very amazing, looking back,” Jasmine shares.

But what has pagentry taught Jasmine Omay, I asked her. And it didn’t take long for her to answer with certainty. “It taught me to persevere. Not all the time, you’ll get the crown, but you are always hungry for it. It’s not saying that you’re imperfect, like there’s an avenue for you to change.” Through her experiences and constant desire to break boundaries for herself as a woman, Jasmine has learned the doctrine of change and consistency.

“Changing and constantly figuring out who you are is one of the best things that the pageantry has taught me. You always push yourself to do things that you’re not expecting to see.”

Faith on Causes: Jasmine Omay and Her Advocacies

Guided by her own doctrines, which she learned through her journey, Jasmine continues to persist in the present to serve her purpose and fight for the causes she believes in. And as we transitioned the conversation from reflections of her past experiences to living true to her mantra in the present, her excitement just shows, especially now that Jasmine is set to compete for Universal Woman 2025, giving her a bigger platform to push forward her advocacies.

As the visionary that Jasmine is, she perceives this new journey as an opportunity to introduce programs that would benefit causes that she champions. “Universal Woman tackles social projects, so naisip ko rin ‘yon—doing multiple advocacies at once,” she reveals. And to do that, Jasmine serves as the co-chairperson of this program along with Teacher Nelia Cruz Sarcol, a panelist during her Beauty with a Purpose presentation during Miss World Philippines 2024, and a philanthropist who saw her heart with the desire to give back and serve the community. For this project, they also partnered with Rotary Club of Makati – Circle of Friends.

“Looking back where I was before, life was just hard, and I just feel now na I can finally give back to the community and help others through working with different organizations.”

Jasmine got even more excited to share details of advocacies, especially those that personally resonate with her heart. She revealed that at times, she would spend her time freediving and connecting with the nature in different ways, explaining her enthusiasm for her environmental advocacies. “We have a marine conserved area in Cavite where we have planted artificial reefs for the fishes’ habitat. And since it’s a marine conserved area, perfect na siya for the fishes,” she narrates.

From the waters back to the land, Jasmine also shared programs that they implemented in Davao after speaking with the Philippine Eagle Association on the impact of civilization on the decreasing habitats for wildlife. “The project planted 202 trees, and in 20 years, there will be more trees for the habitat of the Philippine Eagle. Unfortunately, medyo matatagalan siya, but then we talked about its sustainability,” Jasmine shared with a hopeful vision for the coming years as they look forward to planting a thousand trees.

Jasmine also spoke about one of the advocacies that she finds closest to her heart as a woman—engaging with young women who are survivors of online exploitation through a partnership with CURE. As Jasmine talks about this advocacy, she gets more serious while sounding even more inspired to do more like this and inspire more women and remind them of their potential despite the limitations that the society has set for them.

“Just by sharing stories, they’re given goals instantly. They become aware of what they can actually do. It makes them realize na life is not all about what it gives you, but what you can do above and beyond to pursue what you want.”

A Woman’s Creed: Her Universal Truth

In a few months, Jasmine Omay is set to bring her faith on these causes towards a bigger platform as she steps on the international stage to compete for Universal Woman 2025. But what is she most excited for in this new journey, I asked. Her answer was simpler and far from what others would usually respond to, but it showed her authenticity as an individual with a genuine excitement for what is yet to come.

“Masasabi ko na ‘yong Philippines for the first time! I’m a host, so I host events and send-offs for other queens. Before, I was just saying their name followed by is representing… the Philippines! And now I get to do that!”

Meanwhile, more than the moment that she looks forward to, Jasmine expressed her excitement about the whole journey that she will be taking on in Universal Woman along with her pageant sisters, especially that the competition serves as an avenue to spark inspiration among others. “Universal Woman is the perfect platform because they’re about the new era of beauty, where it’s not just focusing on the face, the qualities, the body. It goes beyond your causes, your purpose. It’s just all about how you are as a woman,” she shares.

Hearing her passion in talking about things that involve women just feels so right, especially that we were having the conversation as we celebrate International Women’s Month. And all the energy she exuded has its roots down the depth of her knowledge and observation on the present condition of women in society, specifically in the Philippines. “For history here in the Philippines, it has really shown that we are from a patriarchal culture. We may have listened to women talk, especially now, but I believe that our voices, our sentiments, and what we fight for can be amplified more,” Jasmine explains.

She also revealed an experience from the past where she had to deal with the unequal treatment of society towards women. “I was aware of how women stand in society when I entered aviation—a male-dominated society. I may have felt discriminated against in doing our flying, only because I’m a woman, as that could—they said—hinder me from becoming a great pilot. We still have a long way to go,” Jasmine narrates.

As a fully realized woman in the present, which she also credits to the inspiration that her mother has given her growing up, Jasmine seizes every opportunity to empower others through her story and even more through the causes she continues to bring to bigger platforms. And all of her experiences drove her to stand even firmer and show the world the true power of women.

“No, as women, we’re not just limited with what they say and what they see. It gives us more potential to progress as women, as what we stand for.”

Jasmine Omay

Jasmine Omay has truly conquered the world as she served her purpose in the community. On the other hand, her quest for the crown and even bigger platforms to amplify the power of her advocacies continues. And this, she will face guided by her doctrines of change and consistency, unwavering faith in all her causes, and her truth that resonates in the woman’s creed:

“Women are capable of being powerful, of being limitless, and boundless. Society may have set boundaries against us, but I believe that the power that we hold as women could tear down these barricades [and] exceed everyone’s expectations. Women are powerful and we are capable of being limitless.”
