What to Give to Your Inaanaks This Christmas

As certified Ninang/Ninong, we all struggle to find acceptable gifts for our Inaanaks every Christmas. And to be honest, aren’t most of us opt to just give cash? I mean it’s the most convenient and seems like our godchildren actually like it better.

However, let’s stop for a moment and think if money is the best option out there. It’s so effortless and can easily lose its value. In a blink of an eye, the money you gave them is no more than a distant memory.

Why don’t we try more this Christmas and give something long-lasting that would provide usefulness to our dearest kids? Here are gift ideas for godchildren this Christmas!

Personalized Items

Everyone appreciates items that are personalized and dedicated to them. And kids are no exceptions. By giving them personalized items, you’re providing them with a sense of ownership towards a gift. This makes one learn the importance of valuing one’s belonging.

Personalized items don’t have to be expensive. A cute water bottle, a pencil, a cellphone case, an article of clothing, or even a cup with your Inaanaks name is more than enough to make them smile.

Books

Start them young! If your Inaanaks are like mine that’s ranging from to 5-14 years old, a book or books are appropriate gifts for these young ones. For some kids, reading can be boring, that’s why it’s important to know these kids’ preferences and get them something they’ll enjoy and learn lessons from.

Reading doesn’t have to be stressful and boring for kids. Make them learn to appreciate the value of a book. Even if they’re uninterested now, one way or another, since it’s a gift from you, they’ll make time to read its content. So make sure to get an interesting one!

School Supplies

Kids hate school but love school supplies! Even as a kid, I’m always excited about buying new stuff for school despite dreading the moments I spent in the classroom. Give your Inaanaks interesting school supplies to spice up their learning experience.

Most especially since schools are starting to open again, some of these kids will experience school for the first time. If you can’t be with them physically, at least accompany them through spirits. You never know, your gift of school supplies might really calm the nerves of these young ones.

Plants / Pets

If you think your Inaanaks are old enough to take care of another being besides themselves, teach them to be responsible with life. You can give them pets since there are probably no children on the planet that hates adorable animals. But if you’re tight on budget, give them beautiful plants.

It’s not only material things you’re gifting, you’re giving them the opportunity to learn responsibility. Gift them a small plant, or a cute hamster for starters. Just giving them something to nurture is already a step towards these children being responsible in the future.

Time

It’s not always the material things that matter. Should I remind you that the responsibility of a godparent is to support the child? And support does not only come from money. Spending time with your Inaanaks is another gift on its own.

A simple play or learning session once in a while can deepen your bond. So if you’re a little short on money this Christmas season, make the effort to spend time with your godchildren instead.

Having many Inaanaks may seem like a very hassle task and quite expensive as well. But to be honest, it doesn’t really have to be that way. Knowing and understanding the kids that you accepted responsibility for, should be your priority rather than simply giving materialistic goods.
