Will Smith smacks Chris Rock for joking about his wife at the Oscars

Actor Will Smith hit comedian and presenter Chris Rock for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith at the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday.

Rock, who was throwing jokes at the audience in a typical fashion, joked about Jada Pinkett-Smith looking like G.I. Jane. This is in reference to Pinkette-Smith’s bald head.

Immediately after the joke, the actor went on stage and hit Rock in the face. Rock then said to the audience “Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me!”

Pinkette-Smith publicly shared her struggle with alopecia, a hair loss disease. She opened about it back in 2018 during one of the episodes of Red Table Talk.

After going back to his seat, Smith shouted at Rock, which was muted during the broadcast. According to reports, he said, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”

During the commercial break, presenter Daniel Kaluuya came up to hug the actor. Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry also went over and talked to him.

Smith won his first-ever Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams‘ father in King Richard.

During his acceptance speech, he apologized to the Academy and to the shocked audience for his prior actions.
