Why Do I Always Wear a Cap?
Every day of my college years, before the pandemic began, I would wear a cap going to the College of Communication in PUP. It has always been a part of what I would wear for the day. So now I wonder, did people know why I always wear a cap?
Why Do I Always Wear a Cap?
What do I see under the brim?
I love observing people, how they look happy, act when they are mad, and just being familiar with their movements. Especially those who I always encounter, like my classmates and friends. Under the brim, I could observe them by not creeping them out with direct eye contact.
I would even sometimes see how their eyes would be mesmerized by the new knowledge they had acquired. And, how the fire and their passion for our course burn through their expressions. No one probably knew why I wore a cap almost every day. Maybe they thought that it was just a thing of mine.
Other than familiar ones, strange faces are also stuck with me. Like that one student vomiting in front of the College of Engineering and Architecture because of drunkenness. And, that kid the dog was chasing in our place while I was on my way home from school. I can only imagine how terrified he was. I have seen a woman, too, early in the morning, completely zoned out while waiting for a PUV to arrive. Maybe she missed her breakfast or is lacking sleep; who knows?
More than a cap can do
Aside from observing people, it also gives me this familiar feeling that I have always wanted to feel—a feeling of security. Wearing a cap comforts me, especially when going out of my comfort zone, which is my house. It makes me feel secure and safe as if it is a barrier protecting me from harm. It might be a little weird, but I may not be the only one who is ‘weird.’
Also, growing up, I have always hated when my hair gets on my face. It’s itchy and uncomfortable, so I always have a headband before. Also, I wouldn’t say I like it when the wind blows my hair off. So, in college, I always wear a cap to prevent my hair from going all over the place. It soothes the consciousness that I feel, the insecurity that I have, if I may call it that way.
My eyes and bright lights are not fond of each other. So, when it’s a sunny day, or I’m going to the malls and other places, I wear one. It helps with the sensitivity of my eyes towards bright lights. So, if you see my room, no direct sunlight can enter. And the bulbs that I use? It has a cover, so my eyes won’t directly get the bright shade of light.
Do you wear caps too? What do you wear them for?
Aside from writing, she loves sports and has been a varsity student for eight years. But as a kid, she dreamt of being a chef one day. That is why she, too, has fallen in love with the art of cooking. That's Lorwillyn, mostly known as "Joy" in their household, and she may not have the most joyous face you'd ever see when you happen to bump into her. Worry not 'cos she isn't mad nor vexed. She's probably just thinking about what update in the story she should write next.
