VP Tech: HONOR 90 Lite 5G First Impression and Unboxing

Following the successful launch of the HONOR 90 5G smartphone, which flew off shelves within a week of its debut, HONOR Philippines is poised to unveil another budget-friendly smartphone, boasting flagship-level features and specifications.

Evidently, HONOR 90 is part of a series, with the HONOR 90 Lite 5G emerging as the initial offering. Will there be a Pro or Pro+ variant in the pipeline? Only time will unveil the answer.

Presently, the spotlight shines on the HONOR 90 Lite 5G, a smartphone tailored to users who seek exceptional photo quality through its 100MP primary camera while maintaining budget consciousness. Anticipate our forthcoming unboxing and initial impressions of this model.

The Unboxing

Speaking from a personal perspective, I’m quite taken with the minimalist and sleek box design of HONOR Boxing. It boasts an all-white color palette. The front, as a central focal point, prominently features the brand and model, with the “Lite” label positioned in the upper center. Moreover, both sides are elegantly embellished with the brand and model name. Towards the bottom, you’ll discover the specifications and regulatory details, while at the top, you’ll find only the brand name. Notably, the back of the box remains mostly unadorned, with just the TUV Rheinland certification icon and recyclable symbol.

Delving into the box’s interior, it continues to uphold its sense of orderliness. Upon opening it, the HONOR 90 Lite model is elegantly encased in eco-friendly plastic. Adjacent, a petite box houses the SIM ejector, a complimentary silicone case, user manuals, and documentation. Strategically positioned at the bottom are the USB-A to USB-C cable and the HONOR SuperCharge wall charger. Additionally, the package also includes a 3.5mm Audio Jack to Type-C adapter.

Built and Aesthetic

The HONOR 90 Lite 5G comes in three color options; however, in the Philippines, only Cyan Lake and Midnight Black will be available, with the latter provided to the VP team for review. Personally, as someone who appreciates monochromatic aesthetics, I was immediately drawn to the Midnight Black variant.

This model touts a slender and lightweight build, measuring just 7.48mm thick and weighing a mere 179g. It’s a truly portable device that easily slips into your pocket or a small pouch. Upon first glance, its design evokes the simplicity seen in recent iPhone models.

Additionally, the rear camera module, situated in the upper left corner, showcases a distinctive Dual Ring Camera Design that accommodates the triple camera setup. The “100MP” text adorns the lower part, while the “ULTRA CAMERA” label accompanies the flash. Concurrently, the brand logo graces the lower left, and regulatory information resides at the lower right.

On the front, the device boasts a generous 6.7-inch Edgeless FHD+ Display, flaunting an impressive 93.6% screen-to-body ratio. This experience is further enriched by a fluid 90Hz refresh rate and a sharp 1080 x 2388 resolution.

Furthermore, the lite version integrates TÜV Rheinland-certified eye protection technology and Dynamic Dimming technology. These technologies enhance eye comfort and reduce fatigue, making it ideal for users who spend extended hours in front of their screens, seeking a more comfortable experience.

Side Keys and Port

At the top, a discreet and super slim earpiece is situated. Moving to the bottom bezel, you’ll find the USB-C port, a petite microphone port, and speaker grills. On the side, the left houses the dual nano SIM card tray, while the right accommodates the power and volume rocker.

100MP Ultra Camera

As the lite version, this model features the new standard triple-camera setup found in mid-range phones, comprising a 100MP Main Camera, a 5MP Wide & Depth Camera, and a 2MP Macro Camera. Furthermore, the 100MP Ultra Camera boasts an f/1.9 aperture, which, in technical terms, allows it to capture vibrant, high-definition photos and intricate details in complex scenes, whether zoomed in or not.

On the other hand, the 5MP Wide & Depth Camera provides an expansive field of view, thanks to its wide f/2.2 aperture that increases light intake and enhances picture quality while creating a pleasing shallow depth of field effect. Feel free to check out our initial sample photos.

Capture High-Quality Selfies

While the HONOR 90 Lite features a 16MP selfie shooter, it’s worth noting that HONOR has been generous enough to provide users with the ability to capture captivating selfies, showcasing vivid and enhanced colors, all thanks to its f/2.45 aperture.

Additionally, the selfie camera boasts facial recognition capabilities that effectively highlight the subject’s facial features. Below, you can find sample selfies of yours truly.

Flagship-Level Super Storage

One standout feature of the HONOR 90 Lite is its generous 256GB storage, a hallmark of flagship devices. Initially, the model ships with only 8GB of RAM. However, HONOR has introduced the HONOR RAM Turbo (8GB+5GB), a proprietary technology that reallocates a portion of flash memory to RAM, effectively expanding the RAM from 8GB to 13GB. This achievement is nothing short of remarkable!

Furthermore, in terms of battery capacity, this model boasts a mid-range leap standard with a 4500mAh Super Battery, accompanied by a 22.5W SuperCharge Wall charger. Additionally, it’s equipped with WiFi 5 and Dual 5G capabilities, operating on MagicOS 7.1, which is based on Android 13.
