VP/Tech Review: The OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G impresses with exceptional photography at a more wallet-friendly price
Remaining true to OPPO’s commitment of providing feature-rich smartphones with enhanced mobile cameras that remain affordable for most Filipinos, the brand recently introduced the latest addition to their Reno series: the OPPO Reno 10 Series 5G.
This series comprises three variants: the Reno10 5G, Reno10 Pro 5G, and Reno Pro+ 5G, with our complete #VPTech Review dedicated to the latter. In case you missed it, you can find it here.
If you’ve read our review of the Reno10 Pro+ 5G and were convinced to make it your choice for photography and social media, but had to reconsider due to budget constraints, fret not. There’s its middle sibling, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G, which offers nearly identical specs and aesthetics while being more budget-friendly.
Why should you consider this as a viable alternative? Let’s delve into it below!
Still sporting that premium-looking design
As we mentioned in a previous review, the Reno10 Series shares nearly identical designs. The only noticeable difference lies in the slightly larger rear camera setup of the Reno10 Pro+ 5G, and a slight downgrade in the specs of the Reno10 Pro 5G.
Additionally, this model offers two color options: Glossy Purple and Silvery Grey. For our review, we received the Silvery Grey variant. It utilizes the OPPO Glow process to craft a premium yet soothing visual appearance. In contrast to the Pro+ 5G version, this model boasts a laser beam-like texture. Moreover, when exposed to light, you’ll notice a depth in its color.
Furthermore, this model impresses with its slim profile, measuring only 7.89mm in thickness and weighing a mere 185g, making it a perfect fit for your pockets or bag.
Moreover, its back houses a distinctive and fresh two-tone design, featuring a pillow-shaped triple-camera module at the top-left. Unlike its Pro+ 5G counterpart, this model’s camera lacks drop and corrosion-resistant glass and aluminum for added protection. Nevertheless, this minor difference doesn’t diminish the overall appeal, as it still holds up well compared to other smartphones in this category. Just remember to handle your phone with care.
High Resolution Screen with Drop Resistance.
Compared to the Pro+ 5G, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G boasts a slightly smaller 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 3D curved design. Furthermore, like the Pro+ 5G, it also includes AGC DragontrailTM Star 2 cover glass, enhancing drop resistance by 20% compared to Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5.
In addition, it offers an impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio, providing an industry-leading borderless viewing experience. Furthermore, users can choose between 120Hz and 60Hz refresh rates, allowing for customizable smoothness while conserving power.
The device features a high-resolution 2412 x 1080 screen capable of displaying a staggering 1 billion different colors at an HDR brightness of 950 nits. This capability contributes to vibrant and detailed color transitions. The only notable absence is OPPO’s ProXDR Smart Display technology, which can deliver up to 1100 nits. However, it’s worth mentioning that the screen still delivers exceptional image quality and color accuracy.
Capture Pro-Level Photos
If you’re on a tight budget but still seek a smartphone that excels in supporting high-quality selfies and portraits, then the OPPO Reno Pro 5G is a compelling choice.
Right out of the box, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G offers a triple rear camera setup known as the ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System. This system comprises a 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera with up to 20x Optical Zoom, a wide 112° 8MP Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera, and a unique 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera with 2x Optical Zoom.
Despite the noticeable downgrade in its camera, particularly in the Telephoto Portrait Camera system, it’s astonishing that it still manages to capture images with rich colors and remarkable detail. You can find sample photos below for reference.

Unlock Pro-Level Portrait Photography
Similar to its Pro+ 5G counterpart, this model comes equipped with the impressive 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera, featuring a 2X Optical Zoom and powered by a spacious RGBW IMX709 sensor—an uncommon feature in this price range.
Furthermore, it boasts a minimum focusing distance of 25cm. Thanks to the all-new RGBW pixel array, it enhances overall light intake by 60% while reducing image noise by 35% compared to typical RGGB sensors. This translates to the ability to capture sharp portrait images even in low-light and dark environments. You can explore sample photos below for reference.
Capture Authentic Selfies with Ease!
As our VP tech review readers are particularly fond of taking selfie photos, I’ll begin by testing this feature on the unit provided for our review. The OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G delivers an exceptional experience, providing natural-looking selfies even when the beauty mode is activated. Similar to the Pro+ 5G variant, this model features a 32MP Selfie camera with Auto-Focus, making use of the co-designed IMX709 sensor developed by OPPO in collaboration with Sony. In essence, the selfie technology integrated into this unit mirrors that of the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G, which can be considered a significant advantage of this model.
Impressive Performance Within Its Price Range
In terms of performance, let’s be transparent: the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G stands out among mid-range smartphones we’ve tested. It exhibits minimal performance glitches and delays, especially considering its price of under P40,000; that’s hard to argue with. However, the Reno10 Pro 5G also distinguishes itself in the highly competitive sub-P30,000 price range.
Powering the Reno10 Pro 5G is the widely recognized Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, an 8-core processor designed for mid-range phones. Built on a 6nm process technology, it strikes a remarkable balance between robust performance and reduced power consumption.
For mobile gaming enthusiasts, this model boasts a generously sized VC liquid cooling system, ensuring that the Reno10 Pro 5G remains cool even during intensive gaming sessions, allowing you to enjoy demanding games without sacrificing performance.
Furthermore, the device operates on OPPO’s ColorOS 13, featuring the robust Dynamic Computing Engine. Our unit is equipped with ample storage, boasting 256GB paired with 12GB of RAM. Additionally, it comes with RAM Expansion technology, temporarily converting unused ROM space into up to 8GB of additional RAM, guaranteeing a consistently smooth experience, even under heavy workloads.
During our testing, the unit consistently delivered impressive performance when switching between apps. Notably, the device warms up slightly, which is normal for most smartphones, but it doesn’t overheat.
Rapid Charging with 80W SuperVOOCTM Flash
The OPPO Reno10 Pro5G boasts a 4600mAh Large Battery, slightly shorter in capacity compared to recent releases from other brands in this price range. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting the efforts of OPPO’s Battery Health Engine in extending battery life.
Moreover, the device is equipped with the impressive 80W SuperVOOCTM Flash Charge, claiming a full charge in just 28 minutes.
To test its charging speed, we deliberately drained the OPPO Reno 10 Pro 5G’s battery. Beginning at 12:16 AM with a battery level of 1%, it reached 41% by 12:26 AM, a mere 10 minutes later, and hit 80% within 24 minutes. Subsequently, the charging process seemed to stall at 80% for a few minutes. It wasn’t until 1:08 AM, after 52 minutes, that the phone finally reached a full charge.
In an ideal scenario without nighttime charging optimization, it could indeed achieve a full charge in less than 30 minutes, showcasing its ultra-fast charging capabilities. Conversely, the nighttime charging optimization feature serves as a valuable addition, safeguarding the battery against overcharging. Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that we do not typically test OPPO charging at midnight.
Benchmarking Performance
To assess its performance, we conducted various benchmarking tests using apps like AnTuTu, Geekbench 6, 3DMark, and CPDT.
Here’s a comparison of the benchmarks between the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G and the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G:
- AnTuTu: 1,218,674 [Pro+ 5G] / 594,692 [Pro 5G]
- Geekbench 6: 1,387 (single-core), 3,823 (multi-core) [Pro+ 5G] / 914 (single-core), 2,740 (multi-core) [Pro 5G]
- 3D Mark Wild Life: 2,757 with an average of 16.51 fps [Pro+ 5G] / 2,474 with an average of 14.82 fps [Pro 5G]
- CPDT: Sequential write speeds of 483.22MB/s, sequential read speeds of 353.17MB/s [Pro+ 5G] / Sequential write speeds of 224.41MB/s, sequential read speeds of 632.07MB/s [Pro 5G]
I chose to compare these sibling models for a more meaningful comparison. Technically, the OPPO Reno Pro 5G lags behind its older brother in terms of performance and key specifications. However, upon closer examination of the results, they are still remarkably close, exceeding expectations and affirming its capability to deliver impressive performance at a budget-friendly price.
VERDICT
In the realm of mid-range smartphones, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G shines brightly. It not only offers impressive performance but also delivers high-quality processed images through its rear camera. While it may lack the 200MP flagship camera found in some other brands, the OPPO Reno10 stands out with its genuine and industry-standard Telephone Portrait Camera System.
When comparing this model to its older sibling, it remains an excellent choice, with minimal downgrades in terms of features and specifications. It manages to meet expectations, especially for our budget-conscious consumers.
Regarding design, as mentioned, the Reno10 series maintains a nearly identical aesthetic, allowing you to relish that premium feel and build while enjoying flagship features in a mid-range smartphone.
This model caters well to students and young working professionals who value capturing quality selfies and images while balancing social media and studies within a budget-friendly smartphone. The new OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is certainly a smartphone worth considering.
However, it’s important to note that in terms of pricing within the mid-range category, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is positioned at a slightly higher price point.
