One of the local artists who has been really vocal about mental health issues is actress and fashion icon Heart Evangelista. In fact, just recently, she was invited to give a talk at the virtual international event Global Town Hall 2020.
“I feel like every time a Filipino goes somewhere I’m very proud.
“I’m also very proud I was given a platform to talk about the things I’m passionate about. It also inspires me to do more. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that someone would contact me to talk about what I’m really passionate about. It gives more meaning to what I do.”
In an interview with GMA News Online, Heart shared the need to take care of yourself in the age of social media that highlights what appears to be picture-perfect lives.
“I guess it’s not that you’re being selfish but I guess you really need to step back from time to time.”
“You know in your heart you care, you know in your heart when given a chance, you’ll get back and give back to your country but at the end of the day you also have to take care of yourself and your mental health because how will you function without it when you’re not feeling right with yourself?”
Moreover, Heart emphasizes the importance of doing things at your own time and at your own pace.
“Don’t pressure yourself because people are pressuring you. Do it on your own time, your own pace and that’s what’s important because if you take care of yourself, you’ll be able to take care of more people.”
