As Andy Williams has said, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. Amidst the current tide of events, many felt disconnected and yearned for that long-lost feeling of Christmas. This series may help you seek the essence of the celebration. And one portrayal of the Nativity Scene that is truly captivating is the storytelling of the religious historical drama, The Chosen.

What is The Chosen

The Chosen is a series based on the biblical life of Jesus. It is co-written, produced, and directed by Dallas Jenkins and is distributed by Angel Studios. This series takes a new spin on the said basis of the story as we see the biblical characters in a new light that continues to inspire with it being more relatable to the viewers. It hopes to make itself distinct from other past narratives and depictions of faith-based media. It recounts the story of Jesus through the people who journey with Him.

The Chosen Christmas Narrative

The Nativity Story accounts for the birth of Jesus from the eyes of His earthly parents, Joseph and Mary. It depicts the struggles and challenges they’ve gone through at the greatest moment in human history. From their journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem; to the cleaning of the manger so that they can settle in; to Joseph assisting Mary to give birth, it is a simple reminder that Jesus, too, was one of us.

Authenticity

As Jenkins states, “It is a narrative show, not a documentary, not a church, it’s not a non-profit ministry, and it is not connected to a denomination or faith tradition and it’s absolutely not a replacement for scripture. It’s a show.”

Jenkins added that they take the production of the series very seriously. It is given that they wanted to narrate a biblical story. That is why it is important that it is anchored on the Holy Scriptures. They also consulted, not only the Gospels but also the biblical experts who study the Bible itself. These discussions can also be viewed on their app and on their Youtube channel.

Connection to Audiences

Furthermore, the beauty of the series, as mentioned, is that its unique storytelling makes it captivating for the audiences. We can also see the characters of the biblical narrative come to life, not as serious all the time, but rather, as people that Jesus called and accompanied Him in His mission. They are more than their written personalities. That is another thing that makes the series stand out, we can connect and relate to its characters.
