Arts and Literature in the Philippines took a considerable blow when COVID-19 struck and brought the nation to its knees resulting in a shortage of opportunities in general for making and showcasing unique masterpieces.
In place of this, Pelikulove, in cooperation with the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA), held a press conference last September 9, 2022, via Zoom online meeting platform to announce an exciting event that is open to everyone.
The Pelikulove team is inviting all of us to the “Shout Out Festival (Maghayag at Lumikha)”, the first-of-its-kind online festival featuring various short films and stage plays that will run from September 19 to September 25, 2022.
Pelikulove and The Shout Out Festival
Pelikulove, led by its Founder and President Ellen Ongkeko Marfil, is a startup, multi-arts online portal that envisions helping and strengthening the Filipino creative community through online training programs.
Combined with the words “Pelikula” meaning film and conveyor of all forms of arts and “Love”, they provide an inclusive, sustainable platform for creativity, collaboration, and community gathering. They also host production showcases that offer spaces to the Obra Maestras that depict new perspectives not often seen or heard on mainstream platforms.
The Shout Out Festival, meanwhile, is a culminating activity of enrollees of Pelikulove’s master classes under Ricky Lee, a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, and Rody Vera, a Palanca Hall of Fame awardee. The works of the enrollees are produced in cooperation with regional theater and film organizations from around the country.
Organizers reiterate that access to the festival’s content is free. However, due to the platform’s limitations, only selected audiences can join through prior arrangements. Early registrants have a chance to avail e-books by Ricky Lee, Rody Vera, and film critic Joel David without any fees.
Shout Out Festival’s Short Films and Stage Plays
The recently concluded press conference introduced us to the team, the board of festival directors, the writers of the winning entries, and the works that will premiere on pelikulove.com.
