Entertainment District Mission

Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke found themselves on yet another mission -by force. The Sound Pillar Tengen Uzui barrages into the Butterfly Mansion, abducting 3 maidens that can help him find his missing wife.

Tanjiro stood his ground against Uzui, taking the place of the poor manor assistants together with Inosuke and Zenitsu. It was then revealed that Uzui’s wife went missing after investigating a string of disappearances in the Entertainment District. It was then up to the trio to find Uzui’s wife, disguising themselves as maidens and going undercover in three separate courtesans (Oiran) houses to investigate.

Upper Moon Six: Daki

Inosuke investigates a room he believes to be of Uzui’s wife, Makio, and felt a presence creeping into the walls. Zenitsu then came into contact with the demon, revealed to be the House’s Oiran, Warabihime. Before the confrontation, Zenitsu protected an assistant from the fury of the prideful Oiran and was rendered unconscious after a single blow. Tanjiro’s earnest nature made him confess to his house’s kind Oiran before leaving in pursuit of finding the now-missing Zenitsu. As he left, however, he came face to face with Daki, the 6th Upper Moon.

Things escalated quickly as Daki proved to be Tanjiro’s toughest opponent yet, a demon with full control of her steel-like hair. Tanjiro fought to extreme lengths, revealing the true nature of the Sun Breathing before tapping his limits from the lack of oxygen. Nezuko came to his aid, enraged and with a new demon form. Nezuko overpowered the Upper Moon but was restrained by Tanjiro after his sister lost control. Nevertheless, Uzui came to finish the job, beheading Daki in a single stroke. Things did not end there, however, as from within Daki is an evil impossible to contain.

Upper Moon Six: Gyutaro

Gyutaro emerges within his sister, proving to be deadlier and faster. The weaponized scythes Gyutaro possesses secrete poison in a single cut. Tanjiro and Uzui fought side-by-side to overwhelm Gyutaro, while Inosuke and Zenitsu faces Daki. Gyutaro’s Blood Demon Art creates violent slashes that fly in multiple directions. This blew Tanjiro away and was forced to join his friends in battling Daki. As the trio charged and cut off Daki’s head, Gyutaro re-emerges, fatally stabbing Inosuke. As Tanjiro peers behind, he sees Uzui defeated, laying face down with a cut-off arm.

Battle of the Entertainment District

Tanjiro desperately scampers around for his sister, before being confronted by a smug Gyutaro. Tanjiro pulled a last-ditch effort to cut Gyutaro’s head using Uzui’s wife’s wisteria kunai but fails. Uzui came to the rescue, claiming to memorize Gyutaro’s attacks and read them as music sheets.

The resulting battle became one of 2023’s most-viewed anime fights, as Uzui and Gyutaro charged in an all-out battle. Tanjiro watched closely on the sidelines before assisting Uzui with the decisive strike, simultaneous to Daki’s beheading by Inosuke and Zenitsu. The two Upper Moons’ heads rolled to the floor facing each other, ending the Battle of Entertainment District.

The Sound Pillar Retires!

After Nezuko alleviated Uzui’s poison, the Sound Pillar opted to retire. Uzui suffers wounds that took one of his eyes and arm. The Snake Pillar Obanai Iguro arrived late and advised Uzui against the idea. Obanai argued that the Demon Slayer Corps faces a crisis after the Flame Pillar Rengoku’s death, and his retirement won’t be good. Surrounded by his three wives, Uzui claimed that he is unfit for battle and their leader shall understand. Thus, ending the career of the flamboyant Sound Pillar Uzui, reducing the number of Pillars to seven.
