realme 6i: What’s inside the box and first impressions

6i

Realme released another affordable device here in the Philippines that has pretty impressive specs for this price range. On the outside, it may look like its predecessor realme 5i but the specs had major improvements so far. This budget contender arrives with an upgraded processor, bigger storage, faster-charging tech, and improved back and front cameras.  Let’s take a brief look!

Unboxing and First Impressions

A typical yellow-orange box packed the realme 6i along with its inclusions.

It arrives with TPU translucent flexible case, paper documents, and a SIM ejector tool. The package also includes a 9V/2A 18W USB wall charger and a USB-A to USB-C data/charging cable. Since this is a budget smartphone, we don’t expect free earphones with mic.

By looking at the back design, you can see that the realme 6i utilizes polycarbonate material in a textured matte finish. This quite similar to the previously-launched smartphones of the brand. But then, this kind of texture is nice since it adds grip to the phone even without a back casing. Aside from that, it makes the 6i less prone to dirt and smudges.

The company also mentioned that it also has a water splash resistance, making this device more durable. It is available in two colors, White Milk and Green Tea. The Green Tea color with vertical lines added some classy appeal, it looks attractive so far. The well-known designer Naoto Fukasawa of Muji is claimed to be the one responsible for its aesthetics.

The realme 6i sports a 6.5-inch HD+screen with a waterdrop notch. It is made of glass but protected from scratches and light drops with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Thankfully, it has a  pre-installed screen protector. The notch design helped to minimize the bezels so it was able to have an 89.9 percent screen-to-body ratio. As a result, it can give the user more immersive viewing experience.

front

You can find a hidden speaker grill on top of the notch but note that this is not a secondary speaker. It also lacks a LED notification.

The chin is a bit thicker compared to the top and side bezels. At the bottom, a single speaker, USB-C port, two microphone holes, and a 3.5mm slot are all located. They said that this is the one first realme devices to sport USB-C port and fast charging feature, following realme XT.

The left side of 6i has a hole where you can find the triple slot for sim and SD cards. The volume rocker is positioned here as well whereas the power button is on the right side.

Features

Under the hood, The realme 6i runs by a MediaTek Helio G80 processor with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. It is the world’ first MediaTek Helio G80. Based on initial benchmarks, the Helio G80’s performance is at par with the performance of Snapdragon 10. But we must wait for the full review of this unit to prove this assumption regarding its capabilities. There’s also an option to expand its memory up to 256GB with a microSD card.

As for the cameras, the realme 6i boasts a quad-camera set-up consists of the following:  48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP portrait, and a 2MP macro. In front, this smartphone has a 16MP shooter. It has the same camera arrangement as the realme 5 Pro so it should be able to have the similar quality in photos.

The device also includes features such as Dual-Pixel AF and Chroma Boost. Its camera app has all the modes we all know: HDR, Night, Portrait, Ultra Macro, Time Lapse, Slow Motion. Panorama, and Expert.

Size and Battery

The phone’s measurements are 164.4 x 75.6 x 9.0 mm, a bit huge but slimmer than its predecessor. Realme did a great job since the two devices have the same 5,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging. Other features of the realme 6i is a dedicated microSD card slot, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a USB Type-C port.

Realme has not revealed yet the exact price and storage options of this budget phone. However, experts say that this is probably one of the best smart phones under 10K. Overall, it is a stunning phone with remarkable specs for the price, especially its chipset, rear cameras, and fast-charging support.

Wait for our full review to discover if this will be your next phone. Stay tuned!
