Outfit Inspirations From My Favorite Cartoon Characters

I have always wanted to incorporate characters from childhood cartoons into everyday looks. It is an easy way to be an adult while holding onto an element of childhood whimsy. You don’t even need to wait until Halloween when you can dress like them every day. So, if you want to steal your favorite cartoon character’s outfits?

Here are a few outfit inspirations from some of my favorite cartoon characters of all time:

From cartoon characters who don’t change outfits:

Buttercup | Powerpuff Girls

Buttercup is the tritagonist of the animated television series, The Powerpuff Girls, along with her sisters Blossom and Bubbles. As the toughest fighter, she is the bravest and most headstrong of the superhero trio. She represents herself with an aggressive and violent nature.

So, to encapsulate this look, let’s go for a comfy black tank top and cargo pants in her signature color – green. Then, make sure you bring a black leather jacket and wear black leather combat boots. Of course, accessorize your outfit the way you want it to and make sure to emulate Buttercup’s personality.

Chel | The Road to El Dorado

Chel is an Indigenous young woman from The Road to El Dorado with long straight black hair and a heavily visible curvy hourglass figure. She wears an off-white top that reveals her midriff and an off-white loincloth with pink stripes at the end hang around her hips. She may be one of the cartoon characters whose outfit remains hard to replicate as it doesn’t really have that much fabric.

So, to perfectly copy her outfit, you can go for a pink and white striped sleeveless crop top and a pair of white wide-legged jeans. Since she is always barefoot, you can also go for a strappy heel. Then, accessorize however you want to. Opt for a gold hexagon-shaped earrings as she was seen to wear it sometimes. Then, grab a blue and pink bracelet to completely copy her outfit.

Velma | Scooby-Doo

Velma is the bespectacled resident genius of Scooby Doo’s Mystery Inc., often being the one to decipher the clues and solve the crimes. She has a fascination with mysteries and at times, she can become competitive with other people who are very intelligent like she is. Although she has a bit of shyness in her character, she remains sharp-witted and sometimes sarcastic.

Velma is one of those cartoon characters that don’t change their clothes. So, it’s easy to completely replicate her outfit. When you opt for a loose orange knitted turtleneck, everyone will already say that you look like Velma. So, make her outfit more modern with red pleated mini skirt and a pair of platform Mary Jane shoes.

Tiana | The Princess and the Frog

Tiana is the protagonist of Disney’s 2009 animated feature film, The Princess and the Frog. She is a gifted cook living in New Orleans during the Jazz Age, dreaming of opening up a restaurant of her own. She made history as the first African-American princess in the Disney Princess franchise. She is intelligent, resourceful, and highly talented young woman.

Tiana is always busy and usually wears a yellow-collared work clothes with an apron around her waist. Make it more fun with a pastel yellow satin long-sleeved button-up and a white pleated mini skirt. Keep yourself agile with a pair of white sneakers as Tiana is always on her feet, ready to work for her dream restaurant. Of course, don’t forget to jazz up your outfit with a few accessories of your own.

Kida | Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Kidagakash Nedakh is the daughter of the King of Atlantis. As a warrior princess, she is very strong and remains skilled at combat. Although she can seem quite forceful, violent, and aggressive at times, she has a kind heart and general respect for all creatures. She only wears a simple strapless bandeau and a sarong type skirt.

To perfectly replicate her outfit for a casual look, you can go for a strapless bustier top and a long silk skirt. Since she always go barefoot, opt for a pair of strappy heels and make sure your accessories are gold to showcase her transition from being a warrior princess to the Queen of Atlantis.

From cartoon characters who don’t change outfits:

Alex | Totally Spies!

Alex is one-third of the Totally Spies! that live a double life as spies and normal teenage girls from Beverly Hills. Definitely the heart of the trio, she values her friendship with Sam and Clover above all else. Although somewhat modest in their presence, she will fiercely do anything to keep their trio united and happy.

Despite being a spy, she is still sweet and a little bit girly. And, her style truly showcases it. To replicate her look, you can opt for a mock turtleneck top underneath a green sweater vest. Then, go for a skirt that is made with a breathable fabric. That way, you can still move around comfortably just like her.

Flora | Winx Club

Just to get it out of there, I don’t like the newest verstion of Flora as she looked ten shades lighter than the original. Original Flora is my favorite out of all the members of the Winx Club. She has brown skin and long brown hair that has bangs framing on either side of her face. As the Fairy of Nature, she has nature-based powers with her strength relying on her surrounding environment.

To create the whole cottagecore vibes she gives off, we can go for the original outfit she wears as a civilian. She dons a light green puffed sleeved crop top and a pink skirt. If you want to really emulate her look, you can go for green accessories that looks like vines crawling around your body. Then, make sure you have the platform heels and voila!

Kim Possible | Kim Possible

Kim Possible is the titular character of Disney’s animated TV series of the same name. She is a high school student and a freelance troubleshooter. She is unusual in this field of work due to the fact that she doesn’t use a secret identity. Kim is a confident, tough, brave, strong, and sharp teenager whosse awareness of her own abilities is reflected well by her motto, “I can do anything.”

Kim is one of those cartoon characters that actually changes her outfits. One of my favorite outfits is her wearing her purple spy outfit. To replicate this look, you can opt for a turtleneck top and a pair of flared pants. Make sure you’re ready for combat with a pair of combat boots. Then, add an oversized leather blazer for a more badass effect in your outfit.

Marceline, The Vampire Queen | Adventure Time

Marceline is a fun-loving and playful 1,000-year-old vampire queen from Adventure Time. She is an avid musician who plays electric bass guitar which she crafted from a family heirloom, the battle-axe. She is a fearless daredevil and has a fondness of mischief, opting for comfort with her style.

It isn’t hard to recreate her outfit. You can just throw on a red cropped tank top and a pair of trustee denim pants. Then, of course, her favorite knee-length boots will add the funness in the outfit. Of course, you can go for simple accessories since she doesn’t seem to wear any.

Which outfit would you like to recreate? Let me know!
