Amid the scare and escalating panic of the coronavirus pandemic, everything has been put on hold including the works of our fave celebs. But what are they really doing in this time of need?

Some opted to give inspiration through music like what Regine and Ogie shared on their IG accounts. Others call for donations like Bela Padilla and Maine Mendoza. Angel Locsin like what she always does serve as the real-life Darna through actions. She called for help to build sleeping quarters near hospitals to provide health workers on the frontlines an accessible area of rest. These are such amazing acts to emulate and are tough acts to follow.

But Maricar Reyes-Poon opted to use her influence in a different light, she recently posted a makeup vlog and put a twist on it by discussing her insecurities and how one can overcome it.

What did Maricar do?

Often we see the glitz and glam of being a celebrity. It’s so seldom that we see them not perfect which creates a conformity culture. Hence, we see everyone has to resort to photoshop or editing just to appear perfect in our social media accounts. Maricar, on the other hand, tried to resort to reverse psychology to truly make an impact. In her vlog, she showed how she’s doing her everyday makeup routine while discussing her innermost doubts and insecurities. She even mentioned how she tried so hard to hide her insecurities with a really nice exterior. She has indeed shared her journey to self-love.

What can we learn from it?

It is true that the most important relationship that we have is our relationship with ourselves and we need to cultivate it by reassuring us that no one is perfect. We can’t always beat ourselves up by focusing on our weaknesses. It’s our duty to ourselves to reassure us that we’re good enough that we’re also blessed like the others. This is so comforting and it will surely enrich our lives to make us happier. By positive self-talk and not comparing ourselves to others, we will be able to combat our insecurities that might eventually help us to reach our full potential.

Celebrities have a huge platform and influence and we hope that a lot will follow suit to encourage others especially in this time of need and uncertainty. They command a significant social power so we only hope that a lot of them will do the same to be a source of hope and inspiration.

Kudos to you Maricar, you are not only blessed with a beautiful face but with a good heart as well. The Filipinos, at large need people like you now in this time of crisis, more than ever. Keep on being such an advocate for self-love.
