Jane de Leon to film “Darna” in September; exits “Ang Probinsyano”

Lilipad na! Kapamilya actress Jane de Leon will conquer the skies as she gears up for the Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series. In relation to this, she will be stepping out of Ang Probinsyano, where she plays Cardo Dalisay’s (Coco Martin) nemesis-turned-ally Capt. Lia.

De Leon appeared with a storyline that ranged from being accused of Alyana’s killing to making an alliance with Cardo towards her own gang. Moreover, preparations on Darna had been postponed even before the pandemic. Originally. ABS-CBN selected Angel Locsin to relive the heroic role in the cinema in 2014 but had to step down due to health issues. Liza Soberano also had to withdraw due to a finger injury. 

In 2019, ABS-CBN held an open audition for the role. Around 300 aspirants auditioned for the role including established actresses. However, Jane stands out the most. Jane, according to Lamasan, perfectly matches their idea of a coming-of-age storyline for the film.

Back in 2018, executives picked Erik Matti to direct the Darna movie, but he also left the project because of “creative differences” with ABS-CBN Films. Furthermore, Jerrold Tarog then replaced Erik Matti. However, Tarog also left the project due to schedule conflicts. ABS-CBN did not announce who will be replacing Tarog. 

Last year, ABS-CBN chief operating officer of broadcast Cory Vidanes confirmed that Darna will take flight in 2021. She also revealed that Jane will continue to play the renowned Filipino superheroine in the TV series. In the same year, Jane extended her contract with Star Magic.
