It’s A New Era Of Wonder for the Wonder Woman Sequel Trailer

Gal Gadot is finally back as the Amazonian PrincessDiana a.k.a. Wonder Woman.

To the unified praise of all those patiently waiting, Warner Bros Pictures has finally released the first trailer for Wonder Woman: 1984 today. And we are not let down.

Based on DC‘s official synopsis, WW84 is set in …well…1984. The plot revolves around Diana Prince finally grasping the ideas of the contemporary world (compared to in the first movie). Although, it hasn’t been a smooth undertaking. With more foes to face, will she show the same level of compassion and strength this time?

2020 hasn’t even started yet but we’re already half a year away before the movie comes out. While we count down the days, let’s break down some key scenes from the trailer and theorize like the good fanboy and fangirl that we are.

In the most traditional sense of it, Wonder Woman is shown fighting another set of guys with guns.

From her solo movie debut and to Justice League, we’ve gotten to see her in glorious close-combat slow-mo action while saving civilians. In the trailer, we get two different scenes. One is where she squares it off with armed men in the famous 80s set mall. And the other, what could be security shooting at Steve Trevor. Yes, that Steve Trevor from the first movie. More about him down below.

We’ve seen Diana’s island home of Themyscira a couple of times in live action. It’s where the Amazons live in harmony and away from civilization.

With this movie, it seems we get additional scenes during Diana’s years in training. Additional set pieces and establishing shots from the trailer confirm these will be flashback scenes.

Maxwell Lord and The Cheetah

We get two baddies this time. One is Maxwell Lord in front and center, based on how the trailer depicts him to be. But we also get another one with Barbara Minerva, who seems to spends most of her character as a human before transforming to Wonder Woman’s arch-nemesis The Cheetah.

We get brute strength from Cheetah and also mind games with Maxwell. Wonder Woman will certainly have her hands full this time around.

Wonder Woman swinging from…lightning bolts??

Ummm…okay? Definitely something new to see. We’ve grown up seeing Wonder Woman fly in the comics and in the cartoons. But we’ve also gotten used to seeing her only leap at tall heights instead for the live-action movies.

Watching her swing from one lightning bolt to another like Spider-man is dope and something to get used to again. Plus it’s her dad Zeus’ main weapon (so maybe that’s why she doesn’t get electrocuted?

Diana reunited with Steve Trevor. Wait. STEVE TREVOR???

The biggest question for the sequel is none other than this plot twist. Steve Trevor sacrificed his life in the first movie. Seeing him alive and well and struggling with the new world makes you wonder if he’s really alive at all.

One baddie introduced is Maxwell Lord, right?  In the recent comics, he’s a businessman who has psychic persuasion. He has a certain influence on a person’s mind, can bring out their deepest desires, and also has limited telepathy. If look at this at that point, it would be possible that Steve is nothing more than Wonder Woman’s altered imagination.

Golden Eagle Armor FTW

The eagle has landed! Aside from her signature Amazonian armor, we’ll see the superhero don an outlandish-looking outfit (maybe during the 3rd act). This special armor is a comic fan favorite and had been used by Wonder Woman a few times in the books.

Wonder Woman: 1984 will wow us on the 5th of June 2020. Patty Jenkins returns to helm the director’s chair. The movie stars Gal Gadot, along side Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen.
