Inka Magnaye recounts her surgery experience due to PCOS

Inka Magnaye is popular for her voiceover talent and content creation. Also, this smart gal is using her voice and social media influence for good reasons. In case you missed it, Inka is an advocate for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) awareness.

PCOS warrior since 18

Inka posted on her Twitter account, recalling her painful emergency operation because of a ruptured cyst.

She included a photo of herself with this caption:

“It’s been 10 years since I had to undergo emergency surgery for my ruptured cyst. #PCOS is a daily struggle, but it can be done.”

Her laparoscopic surgery was already a decade ago, but she can still remember the experience. Who wouldn’t? Yet, Inka used this situation to remind women out there to get a checkup with their doctor if they have experienced symptoms of this hormonal disorder.

This is not the first time Inka opened up about battling against PCOS. To those who are not aware, PCOS is a disorder in the endocrine system disorder affecting several women.

She wrote on her Instagram how she was diagnosed with PCOS when she was 18 years old.

When I was a teenager, not one part of my face was free of acne. I even had it all over my back. Also, I had heavy and painful periods that lasted 7-10 days, which would leave me bed-ridden for a week. But on the flip side, I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound.”

Because of her sensitivity to carbs, she workouts regularly and follows a relatively low-carb diet. If she doesn’t do these, her symptoms like painful periods, migraines, bloating, and acne might recur.

The importance of raising awareness about PCOS to Filipinas

Despite having PCOS, the 32-year-old considers herself lucky. She explained that some women are not even aware that they have this disorder, adding,

“This is why it’s so important to raise awareness about it because one of the reasons why I can manage my PCOS so well is because we caught it early on.”

Inka knows that having PCOS is hard so she empathizes with others who are in the same situation. Her advice?

“Just stay healthy so you can give yourself the best fighting chance!”
