Here’s why the Grey’s Anatomy series became my comfort show

Growing up as a child who likes the smell of hospital disinfectant and have a huge dream of being a doctor, I’ve always enjoyed watching different medical-related series during my free time. Out of all the shows that I’ve watched, Grey’s Anatomy series became my comfort show, and here are my reasons why.

Here’s why the Grey’s Anatomy series became my comfort show

Grey’s Anatomy got the M.A.G.I.C.

Who wouldn’t love our interns? The perfect chemistry between Meredith, Alex, George, Izzy, and Christina definitely made the show even more magical. As an intern, they all shared the same dream, goals- and even surgeries! Upon watching the show, I also learned that as a doctor, it is not impossible to have a social life during and outside your work, things can be a little sweeter and lighter when you have your friends around!

There are FIVE rules, memorize them.

“You are grunts, nobodies, the bottom of the surgical food chain.” Dr. Miranda Bailey’s five rules are an icon, we all agree! Even when her M.A.G.I.C. interns already become residents, they were all inspired and tried to recreate a version of Bailey’s rules. But still, nobody can replicate the original!

You are my person.

The unbreakable bond between the “twisted sisters”, Meredith and Cristina is the type of friendship that I aspire to have! The personalities between these two characters are a perfect match for each other. Through ups and downs, they are on each other’s side, no matter what happens.

Who doesn’t hate Dr. Karev during the early seasons? He is the most arrogant, selfish, and grumpy intern. In addition, he hated pediatrics, too! As I continue to watch the series, I slowly understand the reason why he hates everyone so much. His childhood history is the main reason behind his mostly inappropriate demeanor. However, with the help of Dr. Robbins who molded him to become one of the finest pediatric doctors in Seattle, his character became one of my favorites!

Meredith’s House

From Season 1 until Season 19, Meredith’s house definitely became everyone’s house, too. Different occasions and gatherings were held in that house, such as Izzie’s party, the Thanksgiving feast where the interns met George’s brothers, the awkward dinners, dancing sessions with Cristina, the Halloween party for Meredith’s kids, and more. Her home also became a place for heartbroken people. As Derek jokingly mentioned, she is also known for “taking strays” in her house. For me, this place holds a lot of memories, including their happiest and grave moments, too.

Lastly, Grey’s anatomy opened my eyes to reality and taught me to fight for what is right.

The hospital mass shooting, burn victims, mass casualties, and deaths- these are all natural phenomena that are happening in real life. The series shows us how doctors also struggle and deal with these kinds of situations. I also admire when Dr. Jackson Avery stood up for what is right during the Harper Avery Foundation sexual allegations- which was eventually renamed to Catherine Fox Foundation. The series also shows the reality of the situations, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, wherein the episodes also adapted to the circumstances.

Grey’s Anatomy is a series full of surprises, lessons, and even humor, too! If you haven’t watched it yet, this is your sign to put the show in your must-watch library, now!
