Clara Tan is not afraid to reveal her body — and so should you

If you watched cycle 5 of Asia’s Next Top, you might probably remember Clara Tan from Indonesia. She was the 11th contestant who got eliminated during the show, finishing in fourth place. Wonder what she’s doing lately?

Showing flaws and being unafraid of what others think

Clara was among the three representatives from Indonesia but she was probably one of Maureen Wroblewitz’s strongest opponents in the competition. She’s still fierce as ever and turning spotlights during the photoshoot but it’s apparent that her figure was not the same anymore.

To open up about her weight gain, she posted the whole story on her Instagram account. She bravely talked about her flaws and embracing them. She did not hide her flabs, her bulging stomach, or edit her stretchmarks. Wearing two-piece underwear, she is not afraid to reveal her body.

She wrote in her post, “Hi! My name is Clara Tan. I’m 25 years old and I used to be a model. This is my body that everyone used to say is perfect. I gained 17kg but that’s okay because I’m happy. I started dieting since I’m 18, now I can eat whatever I want.”

Clara added that she wants to tell other people that she’s far from ‘perfect’ anymore. She explained that part of growing up is changes in the body and that’s fine. She added, “Do I feel insecure about my body? For sure, yes! But I learnt to love it, because when you accept your flaws, no one can use them against you.”

The model also went on to remind her followers that social media is often just an illusion and that no one is truly as flawless in real life as they are in photos. She told them, “What you see on IG is not real. There’s so much editing to find the right angle, so much filters to make you believe everyone online is flawless—the perfect life, the perfect body. And this is me showing my flaws with [confidence]. Will you do it the same?” She then ended her caption using the hashtag #ShowYourFlaws.

A lot of people from Instagram showered Clara Tan love and support and that includes her fellow models and influencers. Her AsNTM batchmates Maureen, Shikin, and Dorothy Petzold also gave empowering comments to her revelation.
