After a two-and-a-half-year wait, it’s finally here! Catriona Gray unveils her wax figure for Madame Tussauds Singapore, making her the museum’s first Filipino exhibit.

Honored and surreal

In an interview prior to the reveal, Catriona shares her fascination with Madame Tussaud’s wax figures. Especially when visiting the main museum in London.

I remember being a little girl at around 12 or 13 years old; I set foot in my first Madame Tussauds experience in London, the UK and I remember looking up to my idols – Christina Aguilera, Beyonce – and I always had a perception that to be in Madame Tussauds, you had to be an influential historical figure, a president, or an A-list global superstar

She then goes on to say that she never expected to be given this kind of opportunity.

If you would have told 13-year-old me, ‘hey, you’re gonna have a wax figure of your own one day’, I don’t know if I would have truly believed you.

The statue–which she fondly calls her twin–pays tribute to her iconic Miss Universe 2018 winning look. It features a replica of Mak Tumang’s lava gown as well as Catriona’s extra pair of shoes from the pageant.

In January 2020, Catriona revealed in an Instagram post that she will be getting her own wax figure. However, preparations began as early as November 2019 when Catriona underwent a six-hour fitting process with the Madame Tussaud staff.

The launch was set for 2020 but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it had been postponed.

Queen Things

Catriona follows fellow Miss Universe winner, Pia Wurtzbach as the only Filipina beauty queens to have their respective wax figures. In March 2019, Pia became the first Filipino to have a wax figure for Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong.

Catriona’s wax figure will be available for viewing at Madame Tussauds Singapore beginning March 31. It is an interactive display in the museum’s TV and film zone where visitors can try Catriona’s famous lava walk.

The figure will be on display until September 2022.
