Book Hoarder Tips to Get the Best Deals

Maintaining a reading hobby is no joke. Indeed, it takes a lot of time, effort, and like everything else, money. That is only to speak of maintaining a normal and healthy hobby. But how do you maintain a simple hobby that grew out of proportion? How do you even maintain a book-hoarding obsession? More importantly, how do you sustain a passion if you’re on a budget?

As a broke book hoarder myself, I have attempted to find the best ways to feed my obsession without breaking my limited budget. And in my search, I found a few of the best hacks that personally helped me with my hobby. With that, let me share with you a few tips.

Here are a few book hoarder hacks to get the most out of a tight budget:

Follow Your Favorite Bookstores’ Official Pages

Of course, when aiming to score the best deals, catching wind of store sales, promos and discounts is our main target! However, it is not always easy to get on with the latest updates when you only rely on hearsay and occasional visits to their stores. Hence, it is a must for us bargain-hunters to get ourselves up to speed by following our favorite Bookstore’s official pages.

Usually, announcements and updates on the latest sales are posted on Facebook more than on other platforms. Thus, I recommend following them on Facebook! Here are some links to the bookstores I follow: National Bookstore, Booksale, and Fullybooked.

Compare the Prices! Don’t buy in haste!

In my opinion, the golden rule in bargaining books is “thou shall not make haste!” Sometimes, as varying bookstores sell books at different prices, buying a book hurriedly doesn’t help in finding the best deals. So, might I suggest first to scout for your target book in each store before buying? And if you find a rare title and you’re worried it might sell out I have an additional tip.

Pro Tip: If you’re with company, leave them with the book to secure your rare find. But, if you’re alone, try hiding the book behind other books, or replace it somewhere it doesn’t belong. That way you could secure your precious find, once you’re done scouting. (P.S. I know it’s kinda naughty, I’m sorry!)

Ask for their Re-stock Schedule

Besides knowing when they would replenish their stocks to get the latest deals, asking about their restocking schedule also helps you score bargain deals. I don’t know about you, but in my personal experience, I’ve observed how prices go low once they’re close to restocking. Some call these flash sales Paubos Sales, where old stocks are sold cheaper.

Although, it is important to note that this might not always be the case, as some stores might not implement flash sales like this. Still, nothing’s gonna hurt you if you will just ask.

Try Instagram Book Thrifting

Saving the best for last is another great tip for finding the best book deals! If you’re really interested in finding the most affordable deals, you can easily find them all over thrift stores on IG. Though most books are sold second-hand, they often come in good condition. In fact, depending on the item, you can even purchase books that are good as new. Moreover, you can also find the rarest deals as some unique items are also sold there.

Book-hoarding is now made easy and more budget-friendly! And with these few book-hoarding tipid tips hopefully, you can maintain that sometimes expensive book hobby of yours! Just make sure to give these tips a try!
