The evening gown competition is one of the most iconic segments of many pageants. Candidates will have the opportunity to show off their grace and elegance while walking on stage showcasing their chosen designer’s creations.
For me, a candidate’s gown can make or break her chances of winning one of the BBP crowns. In order to create a gown that perfectly suits them, candidates are working hand in hand with Filipino designers.
A special award known as “Best in Evening Gown” is given to one binibini who stands out during the evening gown competition at every Binibining Pilipinas (BBP) coronation night.
Here are the Binibining Pilipinas Best in Evening Gown winners through the years.
2022 Binibining Pilipinas
She wore a white and gold ensemble dress called “Raya” completed with a bedazzled salakot.
This gown is inspired by Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess Raya from the animated film “Raya and the Last Dragon”.
2021 Binibining Pilipinas
Last year’s BBP Best in Evening Gown award was also given to Gabrielle Basiano making her back-to-back victory this year with the same designers, Jevin Salaysay and Ken Batino.
She was also dressed in a white and gold beaded gown dubbed as “Perla” with an embellished veil that she removed at the end of her walk to symbolize “the hope of unmasking” the worries of the world.
Note: There was no Binibining Pilipinas coronation held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
2019 Binibining Pilipinas
With a Cary Santiago design, Gazini Ganados of Talisay, Cebu won the BBP 2019 Best in Evening Gown award.
She looked stunning in a pink gown called “the Phoenix gown” which symbolizes her ups and downs journey.
2018 Binibining Pilipinas
Catriona Gray from Albay dazzled in a silver gown called “Sinag” which was made of 10,000 Swarovski crystals.
She was also hailed as the BBP 2018 Best in Evening Gown wearing this Mak Tumang creation.
2017 Binibining Pilipinas
Mariel de Leon from Las Piñas bagged the BBP 2017 Best in Evening Gown award in another Cary Santiago creation.
She wore a red serpentine gown that accentuated her figure.
2016 Binibining Pilipinas
Jennifer Ruth Hammond from Laguna was named the BBP 2016 Best in Evening Gown.
She was dressed in a red gown with a sequin work from her neck to torso designed by Nat Manilag.
2015 Binibining Pilipinas
Lastly, Janicel Lubina from Palawan was announced as the BBP 2015 Best in Evening gown wearing an off-white dress with minimalistic blue and ivory vase-like details.
These binibinis, who won the Best in Evening Gown in their respective years, also managed to take home one of the BBP crowns.
Perhaps their gowns are not the reason for their winning, but they certainly made them stand out in the competition.
In fact, winners will be crowned in their evening gowns that’s why candidates should really make the right choice!
