“I’ll set the record straight. I like women. I don’t like boys.”
The celebrity mother and son exchanged seven questions each, in light of Bimby turning 14 recently. The Queen of all Media asked her son her first of seven questions:
“How do you feel, honestly, when you read those comments and they say you’re gay?”
Bimby answered: “Wala, I don’t really feel anything. If you think I’m gay, alright. But you do realize that the gay community sa Philippines is a strong community. And you do realize that I’m 14.”
“I know what I am. I’m straight as an arrow,”
“Are you sure?” Aquino clarified.
“Yes,” Bimby answered.
As a mother, Kris assured Bimby that she will accept him no matter what his sexual orientation is.
“I want to bring this out also.
“Whatever you are, I’ll accept. I really don’t care, honestly. Whatever you choose to be, it will be fine with me for as long as you excel. Whatever you’re going to be, you better be the best at the profession you choose.”
At the latter part of the interview, Bimby reiterated his sexual orientation and addressed the homophobia directed at him, noting that other people are allowed to have their own opinion about him. Bimby, at an early age, has a deep understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity. Regardless of the countless rumors about his gender, he did not take this as an insult.
“I’ll set the record straight. I’m straight. I like women. I don’t like boys.”
“They’re entitled to their own opinion on what they think about me as long as you don’t attack me. If you’re saying, ‘’I think Bimb’s gay,’ I’ll respect that. I’ll say, ‘No, I’m not gay.’ If you say, ‘Beki si Bimb, kadiri!’ (Bimb’s gay, yuck!) That’s wrong.”
