Beepity Boppity Boo! The Real Story Behind Some Disney Films

When you wish upon a star, Disney films make your dream come true. We all love a fairytale filled with magical stories and characters. Whether young or old, Disney films are always a treat to watch because of their family-friendly content.

However, there might be too much fantasy and magic in it. Prepare to have those fairytales you loved so much to be snapped because not every story is made from cotton candies. Prepare yourself because you will definitely need it. Presenting the real story behind your favorite films.

It is not always magical

An Apple A Day Keeps The Queen Away

Let us all begin with the first Disney film. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is a Disney film wherein Snow White escapes her stepmother, the Queen. As she wanders around the forest, she befriends seven miner dwarfs and a prince. In the movie, the queen assassinates Snow White once, but in the original tale, she actually tried to assassinate Snow White three times.

At the end of both stories, the Prince and Snow White got married. However, in the original story, the married couple actually invited the Queen to get revenge which led to passing.

Let’s Get Down To Business

Mulan, our brave female warrior. One of Disney’s most intense movies ever created. It is distinct from other productions of the fairytale genre. This movie features both action and combat. A woman who is independent and strong saving all of China.

Mulan is a story about a woman fearing his father being drafted by China to protect their homeland against the Huns. In turn, she then impersonates a man and serves as a soldier to defend China. In the Disney version, Mulan’s story has a happy ending, as she goes to her homeland to rejoice. There was also a Mulan 2 sequel due to the ratings of the first.

However, the same with other fairytales, the story takes a dark turn. In the original version, when Mulan returns to her hometown she finds out about her father’s passing. Furthermore, her identity is also revealed leading to her being forced to become a concubine. In the end, Mulan ends herself rather than submit to this fate.

Talking Puppet

A sweet and young puppet dreaming to become a real boy. The film talks about the story of Pinocchio’s journey to live and finally become a human. In the Disney film, Geppetto, the woodworker who created Pinocchio wishes for him to become a real boy. As the fairy grants his wish, Pinocchio must learn the virtues and values to become a human.

However, the original version’s goal is different. Pinocchio is actually the symbol utilized by the creator to show what happens to bad kids. The story incorporates multiple nightmares that highly differentiate from what the movie portrayed.

Glass Shoes

Beepity Boppity Boo. Featuring another Grimms Fairytale version, this time in Cinderella. Cinderella has a mean stepmother and two jealous stepsisters that torments her in her daily life. All Cinderella wanted was to enter the royal ball in the city. With this, a fairy godmother appeared and grants her wish. As she leaves the ball, she left behind a glass slipper, which the prince uses to find her.

It all ended with the same niche of Cinderella marrying her prince. Regardless, in Grimms’ version, both stepsisters actually made changes in their feet to fit the glass slippers. Talk about scary. Remember the two birds that follow Cinderella in the Disney film? Well, they actually made fun of the eyes of her stepsisters in the story.

The New World

Alright, let us get into our history brain. Let us take on Pocahontas. Remember the exploration of the Americas? Pocahontas is a story where she meets Captain John Smith as they slowly fall in love with each other. The film actually showed Pocahontas staying with her tribe as John Smith returns to his country.

Furthermore, in the original story, Pocahontas was captured by the Englishmen. It actually ended with Pocahontas marrying an Englishmen that ends with her laying to rest at a young age. Not so grim of a story but also not a fairytale anyone expects.

We all love our own happy little fairytale. However, the real stories are quite different than the Disney film version of it. Be prepared, because you might need a break after reading.
