Andrea Brillantes embraces ‘solo era,’ doesn’t mind acting without love team
Andrea Brillantes is embracing the rewards of being a solo actress, expressing her satisfaction with working beyond the concept of a love team.
Brillantes marked her first time working solo on a project through a new series, Drag You and Me. It recently had a media conference, where the press had the chance to ask the young actress about the experience. She admitted that the role was not an easy task at first.
“Nahirapan ako maging solo artist kasi simula [13 or 15] pa ako, meron na ‘kong love team. Lagi [ding] kaibigan [ko] ‘yung love team ko,” she stressed.
The 20-year-old continued, “Iba kasi ‘yung dynamics kapag in a relationship ka with your partner. Parang it’s not work eh, para kang may date araw-araw.”
However, Brillantes narrated that she eventually appreciated the opportunity to learn from the experience despite the initial challenges.
“Nahihirapan ako na nakakapaninibago, but it’s fun to be with new people. Nakaka-work ko ang mga legends and marami akong natututunan sa kanila.”

Moreover, Brillantes elaborated that she enjoys working without a love team partner. According to her, there is a feeling of a different “power” in being independent.
“[Ito ‘yung] first-ever show ko na, wala akong jowa or friend na katrabaho. Lahat bago,” she said. “It’s a first, pero set na ako dito. I’m loving the solo era. I’m loving it.”
Drag You and Me follows Betty (Brillantes), a student whose scholarship is put on hold due to her unconventional family. Motivated by financial problems and his father’s failing business, she will transform into her drag persona to earn prizes in competitions.
The show will explore Betty’s struggle to overcome rivalries and navigate love that may distract her from her goal. The cast includes JC Alcantara, Christian Bables, KaladKaren, and real-life drag queens Brigiding, Viñas Deluxe, Xilhouete, and Precious Paula Nicole.
The upcoming series will stream via iWant TFC beginning June 2.
