Capsule Wardrobe 101: A Beginner’s Guide
A capsule wardrobe consists of clothes of various styles one should have in their closet. Additionally, it is a variety of complementary garbs that can be simply mixed and matched with one another. The advent of capsule wardrobe started in the 1980s. The term and idea are all thanks to Susie Faux and Donna Karan, respectively.
Reliving the comeback of a capsule wardrobe is what we needed, as we live now in a fast-paced lifestyle. Time is a luxury and wasting it just to rummage through the closet for something is not worth it. This is what makes the capsule wardrobe’s concept an ideal path to take especially for those who are on the go. It’s worth trying to minimize the time and effort it takes just to think of something to wear.
Invest in basics for your capsule wardrobe
Always include and invest in basic pieces since it doesn’t go out of style, regardless of the fashion era. Staples such as plain white t-shirts, button-down sleeves or shirts, jeans, leggings, trousers, LBD (little black dress), cardigans, denim jackets, blazers, and white kicks are a must. These may be simple, but remember that it is also a good foundation to start with.
Add some style
Style and variety on plain wear make it stand out and add vibe and flare. Don’t be afraid to play with different prints, colors, textures, lengths, structures, and silhouettes.
Consider color schemes
Following a color scheme or palette creates a more cohesive and stylish look. Anything among neutral, bright, warm, or cool colors are great picks and common favorite.
Don’t forget accessories
Others may skip this part (guilty myself), but accessories are an important aspect of completing the ensemble. Recommended are gold or silver jewelry, watches, caps, shades, totes, sling bags, or backpacks.
Experiment by mixing and matching
Mixing and matching pieces together is the point of having a capsule wardrobe. This way gives a lot of style options to choose from. White tee combined with either jeans, maxi or midi skirt, or trousers as bottoms and a pair of white sneakers as an example.
Additional tip
Also, consider your style preference in constructing a capsule wardrobe. Essential clothes that you wear oftentimes and comfort should be the top priority.
"An apprentice who again slowly regains her drive to write, thanks to someone who gave her the push to do so. Topics about society, culture, and lifestyle is her cup of tea. It is a no brainer if she enjoys watching or reading anything that falls into the three. If she can no longer handle the exhaustion and stress from writing, a cup of coffee with a side of sweets and anime is her comfort. An apprentice who draws inspiration, either in what she read, watched, listened, or seen. She always empties herself, thinking that she's a blank slate who needs to learn how to fill her canvas."
