Original ‘Blue’s Clues’ host Steve Burns talks ‘abrupt’ exit in message to show’s first fans
In celebration of Blues Clue’s 25th anniversary, original host Steve Burns addressed his exit from the show last 2002.
The video was posted on Nick Jr.’s official Twitter account last Wednesday, September 8.
Steve’s message was not for the young viewers of the children’s show today, but for fans of its first run from 1996 to 2006.
An ‘abrupt’ exit
He said,
“Remember how, when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff? And, then, one day I was like ‘Oh hey, guess what? I’m leaving. This is my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend.’ Then I got on the bus and left. Can we just talk about that?”
In 2002, Steve departed from Blue’s Clues and got replaced by Donovan Patton, who played Steve’s brother Joe.
Furthermore, the show got a reboot in 2019, hosted by Filipino-American Josh dela Cruz, playing Steve and Joe’s cousin.
Steve went on, saying,
“I realize that was kinda abrupt. I just kinda got up and went to college. And that was really challenging, by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time. Now, I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do. And then look at you, and look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time.”
Steve expressed amazement at the shift he and his fans are going through right now.
“I mean we started out with clues. And now it’s what? Student loans, and jobs, and families. And some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know. I wanted to tell you that I really could not have done all of that without your help.”
Moreover, Steve said all the help he got during the show still helps him today.
“I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you. Ever. And I’m super great we’re still friends.”
Blue’s Clues is a live-action/animated educational children’s series featuring the host going on adventures with the viewers to figure out a mystery through clues.
Clues were left by Blue, a female dog, and kid viewers learn a lot, from mathematics to colors and even physics and astronomy.
