Netflix teases special episode Kingdom: Ashin of the North
Netflix recently released the main poster for a special episode of the series, Kingdom: Ashin of the North. The special episode details the backstory of Ashin and the origins of the resurrection plant. This triggered the avalanche of tragic events that swept through Joseon. In the previous teaser poster, Gianna Jun plays Ashin and had her back turned. The new poster also features Ashin facing forward with her face revealed. She grasps her bow while looking confident and charismatic.

The beginning of the death that threatens to consume Joseon
The new teaser starts out with a scene of a tiger attacking people deep in the forest. Following that, we see young Ashin (Kim Si-a) tell her father about discovering information regarding a strange plant that can bring a dead person back to life. Concerned about Ashin, her father also warns her against searching for it. However, Ashin cannot be dissuaded due to her mother’s serious illness. Then, Ashin returns to the forest searching for the resurrection plant when she hears the screams of many people. Lastly, Ashin voices her wishes for “them to shed tears of blood” which foreshadows an exciting tale of vengeance.

In an earlier report, Netflix notes that the special episode will expand the horizons of the Kingdom series. Recently released footage begins with young Ashin holding a torch and entering an eerie cave in the dark. Inside, she discovers strange markings on a rock along with the mysterious resurrection plant. The accompanying copy reads, “to revive the dead, a price must be paid.” Thus begins the intriguing backstory of the epidemic, unveiling how the resurrection plant that grows in the northern regions traveled down to wreak havoc on Joseon land.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North will be directed by Kim Seong-hun. He directed and oversaw the production of the first season of Kingdom. Writer Kim Eun-hee, who scripted the two seasons, also returned to pen an epic story of the episode. Gianna Jun made a striking appearance as the adult Ashin at the end of Season 2. She also sets to return to appease the viewers clamoring for more of her intriguing character. Kingdom: Ashin of the North tells the tale of the mysterious new figure Ashin and the origins of the epidemic that revived the dead king and led to the devastation of the Joseon kingdom.
