Harry Styles references his Fine Line music videos in Golden MV

Harry Styles recently dropped the music video for Golden. Of course, this sent the world into another meltdown, giving the singer his fastest ever video to reach 10-million views. As of this writing on October 30, the video already has 25-million views. Although the video only basically consists of Harry running around in a picturesque neighborhood, it is still worth the watch.

Harry Styles served four unforgettable fashion looks. Aside from that, fans can’t help but notice all the references to his past music videos from his other Fine Line music videos: Lights Up, Falling, Watermelon Sugar, and Adore You. His fans had also started to theorize, working out the storyline that he seems to be weaving through each of them. NOTE: Everything seems to have something to do with the ocean.

FALLING

Falling remains one of the more emotional tracks in Fine Line. In an interview with RADIO.com, Harry Styles explained the truth behind the song. He said that it was about a period of time where one starts falling and reverting into a dark place. He also pointed out that Falling revolves around getting right before a place that you recognize is low for you.

The music video, on the other hand, remained one of the more sentimental as it literally shows Harry drowning as he sings and plays the piano. In Golden, we see Harry diving into the water. Instead of letting himself drown in sadness and darkness, he swims in it and stays afloat.

Another reference from Falling could be a camera angle. In the earlier music video, Styles looks up from beneath the water.

Golden, on the other hand, shows him looking down at the water. This could also reference his other music video Adore You.

ADORE YOU

Adore You remains one of the most elaborate music videos as Styles endorses a fake and magical island, Eroda. The weeks before the music video’s release, a website and social media accounts dedicated to Eroda began propping up all over the internet. His character was born with a sort of magic that makes his smile so bright and heartwarming that it literally blinds people.

Sending us down the mystical rabbit hole, Harry seems to show us his deepest fears, longings, and mysteries. The music video consists of Harry Styles saving a little fish that had washed ashore. The rest of the video shows the singer and the fish forming a special bond. He takes him in as his pet, feeding him every day. As time passes by, the fish gets so big that he has to return to the sea.

A shot of him longingly looking at the overgrown fish perfectly mirrors the one in Golden.

Theory # 1 on Golden MV

In Adore You, he was seen letting the fish (or a special someone) go near the sea. He gazes down sadly at the fish and finally lets the fish go. However, in his newest music video, he was back by the sea albeit a much warmer one. This time, he peers into the water as the camera angle looks up at him.

At the end of the Falling, Harry sails out to sea. At the start of Golden, on the other hand, he runs and drives towards the beach, eager to meet or reunite with someone special. This looks like he has finally reunited with the fish (or a special someone). Adore You remained a darker video, both in its theme and the actual lighting of the video.

Theory # 2 on Golden MV

If you’re still not convinced that Harry may be weaving an elaborate storyline throughout his music videos, the tourism website for the fictional island of Eroda recently added Golden references, putting hints to words like golden and gold.

Golden remains an undeniably upbeat and positive video as he seems to be under happier circumstances, showing the singer has found a happier place. Fans seem to agree with the album and videos released have traced a progression in Harry’s mindset, especially with its lighting and the brightness of the scenes.

Golden

Harry Styles seems to be in a more cheerful conclusion. The music videos keep getting brighter from Lights Up to Golden. It’s like Harry’s saying, “Lights up until we’re golden.”
