Believe me, you would get goosebumps by watching the 1994 film Shawshank Redemption. It is just simply breathtaking, from the well-written story, the characters, scenes, etc., the film can make a stamp on our life. Moreover, the movie went on and is considered a timeless classic. Shawshank Redemption is a great film that shows the spectrum of human experience that can give you hope and fulfillment. Let me tell you, this gem of a movie will make you want to watch it again and again.

The movie can make even the most emotionless person feel something. A banker named Andy Dufresne is the subject of the film Shawshank Redemption. He was imprisoned in Shawshank prison after being found guilty of a crime he did not commit. In the prison, Andy meets a fellow inmate named Red and forms a bond with him.
Soon after, Andy gets introduced to Red’s group as he adapts to living in the prison comfortably. The film then goes on to the day-to-day life of Andy and the group. Andy is a hopeful man, he dreams of living life outside of the walls of the prison. As time goes on, he then pursues to challenge his obstacles with the hope of reaching his end goal.

Brooks is an old prisoner in Shawshank along with Heywood that are a part of Red’s group. This is the scene where Brooks finally leaves the prison after spending fifty years of his life inside it. Brooks threatened to take hostage of Heywood because he does not want to leave the prison.
This quote hits hard. Personally, I have watched the movie over ten times already and I keep on getting struck by this quote. Especially, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, this is the time when I felt this the most.
Something changed within me. I consider myself a very social and outgoing person especially when I entered my college years. However, during the lockdown, I slowly and unknowingly started to change. The pandemic enhanced my feeling of isolation as I get cooped up inside the walls of my home.
Soon after, invitations for get-togethers, family events, and even just going outside are things I now avoid. What gave me comfort before suddenly became a part of my discomfort now. The quote made me digest its meaning after I got to truly experience a somewhat similar situation.

The scene that shows this quote is where Red and Andy are talking about their dreams. Andy dreams of going down to Mexico to live near the ocean, and Red shoots it down because they are in prison. Andy finds himself unfazed as he holds strongly to his hopes and dreams.
We have 525,600 minutes every year to spend our time. Are you satisfied with a life that just gets you by that does the bare minimum? I know I am not. Time is limited, we cannot ask for more, so it is better to take control of it. Do something amazing, inspire or influence yourself or someone in greatness, living takes a huge amount of effort from you, and it is your duty to make your effort and goals meet.
