PAGCOR proves to be government’s staunch ally in fighting COVID-19 pandemic

Amid the global health crisis caused by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), government offices and private companies have been providing help to the community in fighting the said pandemic. Aside from the alarming increase of cases and the frightening percentage of fatality rate, this outbreak will definitely have a significant impact on the country’s economy. Sadly, according to a new analysis by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), expect sharp declines in domestic demand, lower tourism and business travels, trade and production linkages, and supply disruptions.

Now, more than ever, is the high time to help each other through decisive and extraordinary actions. During these unparalleled times, it is our moral responsibility to focus in contributing to the solution. In the past days, we have seen government and private sectors initiating ways in helping out communities, especially to frontline medical workers who have been working tirelessly in this time of global health crisis — and one of them is the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

PAGCOR

PAGCOR: P200 million worth of essential items

PAGCOR has been one of the government’s staunch allies in nation building. In fact, they are doing a huge part in creating solutions for this crisis. Entertainment City casino licensees of PAGCOR donated more than P200 million worth of essential items. Of course, this aims to boost the government’s efforts in fighting the rapidly evolving COVID-19. In coordination with PAGCOR, the Foundations of the four Entertainment City operators teamed-up to provide personal protective equipment (PPE), food and medical supplies to hospitals and Local Government Units (LGUs) in areas where they are most needed.

POGOs distribute P10 million-worth of 25,000 food packs

Moreover, PAGCOR worked together with the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). They distribute P10 million-worth of 25,000 food packs to various cities. The includes Pasay, Parañaque, Quezon City’s Districts 1, 2 and 4, Pateros, Mandaluyong, Marikina and Malabon.

On top of these, just yesterday, PAGCOR released P12 billion (US$233.7 million) cash dividend to the National Treasury to help in the government’s response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis in the country.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez lauded PAGCOR’s P12 billion remittance. He emphasizes that this will “make a substantial contribution to the efforts of the national government to cushion the impact of a severe drop in government revenues, brought about by the slowdown in business activities due to measures taken to contain the spread of COVID-19.”

These impressive efforts of PAGCOR will definitely cushion the nation’s financial hardships and negative impact on our nation’s well being. No one one knows exactly what will come. But, seeing how government and private sectors working together has become a morale-lifter among Filipinos. I believe that whatever calamity may come to us as long as we have each other there will be hope.
