No Christmas parties in Metro Manila for 2020

Christmas

It’s already the “ber” season wherein Filipinos are usually planning their holidays for parties, reunions, and vacations. However, you might hold your horses because you might have to resort to partying with your friends and teammates online.

Gatherings like holiday parties might cause a surge of infection

About two weeks ago, mayors from the National Capital Region are already planning to prohibit holiday parties in government offices. According to MMC chairman and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, the fight against COVID-19 is not yet over.

He added, “All of us may issue a memorandum telling our departments to prevent (Christmas parties) because gatherings are not allowed. Under the guidelines of the inter-agency task force, we could not have any gathering… That is not a priority, because there is still a pandemic.”

During a virtual interview in a radio station yesterday, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año express the same sentiment. Año said that mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) have agreed on maintaining the areas under GCQ.

Metro Manila is still averaging hundreds of new COVID-19 cases a day. Because of that, Año said allowing Christmas parties would only result in a surge in infections. He added further that it will be too bad if our gains in the past seven months will just go to waste if another surge happens.

Do you guys agree with this decision?
