Migrantik: A Fictitious Yet Realistic Ofw Story

An iron chain that, even when sold in a fire, will not fall apart. That’s how I can describe the creation of the Filipino novel Migrantik. Each piece of the chain relates to one another, which made a non-fan of reading like me have the passion for appreciating this work.

Crafted by Norman Wilcayco, the Philippine novel speaks about the system people experience when they use illegal substances. Although the story is fictitious, it has drawn related to the harsh realities of life, especially in the Philippines. This novel represents a high use of personal voice and how an addicted person could rise against the situation.

Excellent narration and Migrantik’s heartbreaking plot

While reading Migrantik, I spent most of the time in peace. With a cup of coffee, it is impossible to take your eyes off the moment you rejoice and realize this story. The author used a high and low form of comedies to relate everyday happenings in our county. Despite this, the novel remains unique in this widespread genre.

Another exciting thing in Migrantik is the massive use of a skeletal plot that slowly punches you to appreciate the character. It might seem that the story becomes highly intuitive, but a father and an overseas worker in Australia made this story worthy of reading. And other than the comedy it pictures, it stirs emotions through tragic narration.

The Reflection of Tony de Guzman

Tony de Guzman’s character in Migrantik represents most modern-day heroes today. The story used eventual flashbacks to picture Tony’s life. Through this, it made sense how a father could strive for his family. With his representation in the novel, OFWs learn that even at their destination, they are bound to return to their home in the Philippines.

However, the writer’s skill in his novel Migrantik in this style still flourishes. The spirit of each part of the story is complete. And its ability to squeeze human emotions can be considered a success in literature. To draw reality through Tony de Guzman is a show of excellence.

Thus, even people who yearn to work abroad must face reality. Working outside of your home makes life harder for family connections. And as we grasp life, we must be able to reconnect, just like how Tony’s life flashed in front of his eyes where his addiction led him to accept his fate that in every suffering is a sight of joy.
