KathNiel’s The House Arrest of Us sets to stream on Netflix

Starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, The House Arrest of Us will be on Netflix starting February 1. Under Richard Arellano’s direction, the digital series was first released on October 24 on KTX.ph and iWantTFC. With thirteen weekly episodes, it revolved around Korics and Q as they finally choose to make their engagement official. However, as Korics’ enormous, and the freed family goes to Q’s critical and rich family for the traditional pamamanhikan, the government abruptly declares a total hard lockdown. The couple, along with their families, has to live under one roof.

The House Arrest of Us – available on Netflix soon!

Shot during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), Kathryn and Daniel had to endure the difficulties of shooting a project while following the strict safety protocols to prevent COVID-19. According to Bernardo, it wasn’t what they were used to.

“Iba siya sa nakasanayan namin. Naka-lock in lahat ‘yung set-up tapos limited lang talaga ‘yung mga pumapasok, at lahat fina-follow ‘yung safety protocols. Nakakapanibago pero lahat naman nagko-comply.”

Padilla, on the other hand, compared their experience to living in a bubble.

“Kakaiba ‘yung experience na nandito kami sa village. Parang, nasa bubble lang din kami. Walang pwedeng lumabas o pumasok. Kami lang ang nandito, astig din siya.”

Comedy + Filipino Culture

The digital movie series also served as the reunion project of the box-office stars since their last television series together. Their last TV series turned out to be the 2017 supernatural hit La Luna Sangre while they last starred in the box office hit The Hows of Us. The digital series offers good comedy and lets anyone peek into traditional Filipino culture.  During the media conference for the digital series, Padilla explained that he thinks a lot of Filipinos miss this kind of comedy.

“I think nami-miss na nila ‘yong ganitong style ng comedy. Kasi it is the first time nating gagawa ng scenes na ang pagka-mount niya is isang pelikula pero ‘yong script natin is sobrang nakakatawa, hindi tayo bumibitaw sa comedy pero nando’n ‘yong puso. So do’n makaka-relate ‘yong mga Pilipino, OFW man o nandito sa Pilipinas.”

Bernardo, on the other hand, felt proud and happy that The House Arrest of Us showcases Filipino culture.

“Ipapakita dito ‘yong culture natin as Filipino family. Tayo kasi ‘pag sinabi mong pamilya dadaan ka talaga sa pamamanhikan. So maganda ipakita na ganito ang culture nating mga Pinoy. Na bago mo makuha talaga ‘yong kamay ng babae ito ‘yong pinagdadaanan natin kasi gano’n tayo lumaki. So nakaka-proud at excited kami na mapanood ninyo ito especially the younger generations, na ganito ang ginagawa ng mga lolo’t lola natin dati pa.”

Aside from the real-life couple, The House Arrest of Us also stars Herbert Bautista, Ruffa Gutierrez, Gardo Versoza, Arlene Muhlach, Dennis Padilla, Anthony Jennings, Riva Quenery, Alora Sasam, and Hyubs Azarcon.
