Janine Gutierrez won big at the recently-concluded New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) after bagging its Rising Star Award.

She received the award for her role in the romantic-comedy film Dito at Doon, which premiered last March 2021.

The actress took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the film festival and its support for Filipino movies.

The people behind her success

She wrote on Instagram last Monday, August 23,

“Happy girl (emoji). Thank you so much to the [New York Asian Film Festival] for the Rising Star Award (heart emoji). So grateful for your support of Filipino films and creatives, for sharing your platform, and getting our stories out into the world,”

Also, Janine thanked the people behind Dito at Doon, including its production outfit TBA Studios, director JP Habac, her leading man JC Santos, and co-stars Victor Anastacio and Yesh Burce.

She said,

“Our little lockdown film is so special to me at mas special pa na maraming naka-relate kay Len at Caloy at sa walang sawang ECQ. as we kept saying nung press days namin for the film, sana magsilbi itong paalala na kung ano pa man ang pinagdadaanan mo, hindi ka nag-iisa,”

Support for Filipino film

Furthermore, Janine dedicated her award who gave support to Filipinos despite cinemas being closed because of the lockdown.

Moreover, she said,

“Sa mga bumibili ng ticket online, sumusuporta sa mga streaming sites at naglalaan ng oras para sa mga virtual premiere – salamat. thank you for supporting the industry and everyone who works in it. you mean everything to us. thank you for coming with us on this journey.”

Janine concluded her post by saying how she looks forward to seeing Dito At Doon to worldwide audiences through Netflix this September 2.

In addition, the award becomes another recognition for her role in Babae at Baril, which was part of NYAFF last year.
