Infinix has been paving the way in democratizing phones packed with premium features. The new Infinix NOTE 40, which comes in 4G and 5G variants, is solid proof of this commitment from the brand.
If you’re looking for something that gives you all the benefits of a gaming phone for under 13k, look no further than this lineup of phones from Infinix.
With ultra-fast charging capabilities, a solid processor, and a beast of storage, join us as we unbox the NOTE 40 5G and see if its greatness goes beyond paper.
Unboxing Experience
Being one of the official sponsors of this year’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) and in collaboration with Mobile Legends All Stars 2024, this edition of the NOTE 40 5G comes in a special box sleeve featuring Esmeralda’s new ‘Astral Muse’ skin.
This box sleeve easily slips off to reveal the metallic green box containing the phone. The package also comes with a 15W Magnetic Wireless Fast Charge Pad.
Upon opening the box, you’ll get a small box containing the sim ejector tool along with the free MagCharge case and screen protector. This box also holds the warranty card that might come in handy in the future.
Under that is the phone itself, followed by the type C cable and the power brick. Overall, the unboxing experience was pleasantly surprising given how many things are inside the box.
Build Quality
Now, it’s time to talk about the phone’s build and appearance. The NOTE 40 5G comes in three colorways — Titan Gold, Obsidian Black, and Vintage Green. The one we got sports the Titan Gold colorway, an iridescent rear that shifts from Gold to bluish-green.
Right off the bat, the NOTE 40 5G is a slim device that gives off a compact and stylish look. It has flat sides that overall achieve that boxy look that most premium phones nowadays try to attain. It also feels easy to hold without leaving dents on your skin from holding it for a prolonged period.
The phone sports a glossy frame and a matte rear out of premium plastic material. The camera module covers about a third of the rear but seamlessly blends into the overall design. There is a slight camera bump, but nothing that causes too much shaking when laid out on a flat surface.
The phone’s frame features a dual sim slot on the sides and a top and bottom speaker configuration by JBL.
Display
The NOTE 40 5G’s screen boasts a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen capable of delivering sharp and vibrant images. Additionally, it sports a bezel-less design with a 93.80% screen-to-body ratio for an immersive viewing experience.
The screen gets as bright as 1300 nits perfect for outdoor use. Furthermore, the screen can be set to 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz depending on your liking. We recommend the Auto-Switch feature so it automatically chooses an appropriate refresh rate depending on various scenarios you might face.
It also features an FHD+ 1080 x 2436 resolution that provides vibrant colors and smooth playback for any type of viewing experience.
Processor and Storage
The NOTE 40 5G comes with up to 24GB of extended RAM and 512GB of storage. This comes in handy for daily utilities, memory keeping, and 5G ultra-fast gameplay.
For gamers, the NOTE 40 5G comes with a powerful MediaTek D7020 5G chipset similar to the NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G. As expected from this line of chipsets, it provides excellent performance efficiency in downloading large files, streaming, and gaming. Given its competitive price, the NOTE 40 5G delivers optimal performance, both as a smartphone and a gaming phone.
Based on our testing, the NOTE 40 5G can smoothly run heavy games in its highest settings with minimal heating even after hours of playthrough. Thanks to its powerful chip, it was also able to maintain its solid 120Hz refresh rate during our testing.
Additionally, the NOTE 40 5G comes with Infinix’s XOS 14.0.0 based on Android 14. Whether you’re a fan of changing themes or not, the phone lets you customize and make your NOTE 40 5G uniquely yours.
Fast-Charging Capabilities
One of the features of the NOTE 40 5G that stood out the most is the 33W All-around Fast Charge. Thanks to the brand’s internally developed X1 Cheetah chip, the phone could easily charge up to 55% in 26 mins.
Though the Smart charging mode works sensibly fast, the true star of the show is its Hyper charging mode. Based on our testing, the phone lives up to its claims of charging up to 55% in just 26 minutes. This is relatively quick for phones in this price range.
As mentioned earlier, the phone also comes with a 15W Magpad that wirelessly charges the phone relatively fast. Moreover, you can also use the phone as a charging pad through its reverse charging technology. This way, you get a phone capable of 5G ultra-fast gameplay, and also a handy power bank when you need it.
Cameras
Now in terms of cameras, the NOTE 40 5G sports a 108MP shooter in the rear and a 32MP front-facing camera.
In terms of the quality of the shots, the phone takes great photos especially outdoors when there’s great lighting. The colors are well-saturated and punchy which is satisfying to the eyes, especially given the under 13k pricing. Furthermore, you can easily get vibrant photos without noticeable overexposure which is good if you have little to no control over the light.
The 32MP front-facing shooter delivers detailed shots with minimal smoothening especially if you have great lighting. Without great lighting though, photos taken from the front-facing camera shows a bit of graining, but nothing too severe.
In terms of video, you can choose to shoot between 1080p and 2K resolution. Just remember, the Ultra Steady feature is only available when shooting in 1080p mode, so we suggest opting to shoot in 1080p for high-motion footage and in 2K if you want to prioritize details.
Overall Thoughts and Availability
The NOTE 40 line is a testament to Infinix’s effort to bring high-quality smartphones to their consumers without necessarily breaking the bank. With wireless charging capabilities, an astounding screen, and a powerful chip, the NOTE 40 5G defies the laws of what a mid-range gaming smartphone should be.
Overall, the Infinix NOTE 40 5G is an all-rounder smartphone that caters to most of your needs. From basic tasks to heavy gaming, the phone delivers in ways you wouldn’t expect from a phone priced under 13k.
