GCash cash-in fee via BPI, UnionBank linked account revealed
Starting October 2, 2023, GCash users will have to pay a PHP 5.00 convenience fee for cash-in transactions via Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and UnionBank.
This change is “due to increasing costs”, as stated in a support document updated five days ago under ‘General Cash In Inquiries’.
Avoiding GCash cash-in fee
Users don’t have to let the P5 cash-in fee dampen their e-wallet experience, though. By using workarounds such as InstaPay or their bank’s own domain to avoid the fee. Including PayPal cash-in which remains free
However, note that these workarounds may come with their own fees, depending on the payment platform or bank used.
Maya, another e-wallet (and a bank), have been letting users transfer funds from BPI free of charge. But unlike GCash which has no minimum amount for transfers through BPI, Maya has a minimum transfer amount of PHP 500.
