Catriona dropped a snippet of her rendition on her Instagram page last Friday, May 21. She dubbed it as “R.Y.F.” The song’s cover art was also present, featuring her and some of the song’s lyrics written in gray.

Singer KZ Tandingan and rapper Kritiko originally performed “Raise Your Flag”. It was composed by Trisha Denise and ABS-CBN Music’s creative director Jonathan Manalo. The track was released in 2019 as a tribute to Gray after bringing home the Miss Universe 2018 crown.

Gray explained that the song is not just about “raising our country’s flag on a universal stage.” Instead, it also tells people that their dreams are valid, their voice matters, and “life is best lived when it’s lived for others.”

I’m so proud to finally be releasing #RYF – a song and personal anthem of mine. For the ones who think they can’t get somewhere. For the ones who think no one believes in them. For the ones who feel like giving up. Streaming on all music platforms 05.28.21.

The origin of the song was Catriona Gray’s answer to TV host Steve Harvey’s question,

You’re a singer and a musician. If you were going to write a song about your experience here at Miss Universe, what would you call it?

“R.Y.F.” marks Cat’s third release since she kicked off her music career. The song followed her duet with Jay-R “Angel of Mine” and the advocacy song “We’re In This Together.

This song is very timely, considering the current state of the country. I hope this track inspires every citizen to pledge allegiance to the Philippines and not the people in the government. It is time to break against injustices and seek better governance.
