Philippines Emerges Triumphant at LEGOLAND® School Challenge 2025

Temple Hill International School clinches second place for the inaugural Junior Category as competition expands regionally

The Philippines’ SeasonSpot team from Temple Hill International School secured the second place at the LEGOLAND® School Challenge 2025, Asia’s largest interschool LEGO building competition. The inaugural Junior Category (ages 7–9) was topped by Singapore’s Treetop Builders from Queenstown Primary School.

This marks the second time a Philippines school has emerged as a finalist in the LEGOLAND® School Challenge since its inception, with their last finalist appearance in 2023.

Organised by LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort in collaboration with Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, the 2025 edition brought together nearly 2,000 students from seven APAC countries — Malaysia, India, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, and also China — under the theme “Build Your Dream Destination”.

Temple Hill International School Wows

The SeasonSpot team from Temple Hill International School impressed judges with their creative and technically ambitious design, securing second place ahead of strong contenders from Malaysia.

This victory gives the Philippines second-place bragging rights in the brand-new Junior Category, introduced this year to nurture younger builders and further expand the Challenge’s regional reach.

“Our dream destination had four zones to represent the four seasons – spring with blossoms, summer at the beach, autumn with orange leaves by the Great Wall of China, and winter with Mt. Fuji,” explained the team – made up of Miguel Buriel, aged 9; Faith Warren, aged 9, and Miya Wong, aged 8. “It took us one and a half months to complete the build, and we wanted every detail to capture the beauty of each season.”

In the spirit of the competition, one of the young builders, Miya, crafted a LEGO® headband to represent herself, her teammates, and their pets – a small but meaningful symbol of their teamwork and creativity.

The team also excelled in the new Live Speed Build Challenge on 22 September, which contributed 20% of the final score. Given the theme “Animals,” they raced against the clock to construct a whale. “The hardest part was attaching the whale’s pieces because it kept breaking, and we wanted to get the details of its mouth just right,” they shared. “But we managed to finish 10 minutes ahead of time – and that made us really proud.”

Celebrating Asia’s Brightest Builders

Creations from finalists ranged from futuristic theme parks on Mars to eco-friendly island retreats, showcasing the imagination, creativity, and technical prowess of young builders. Moreover, from nearly 500 entries, 15 outstanding school teams advanced to the grand finals across three age categories.

The Challenge crowned Malaysia’s Legend Inspire (Sekolah Kebangsaan Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan) as Primary champions and Lucira (Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gopeng, Perak) as Secondary champions.

China also made its debut as a finalist country, with Manila Xiamen International School securing 4th place in the Secondary division.

Prizes worth over RM200,000 were awarded, including LEGO® trophies, annual passes, exclusive LEGO® sets, and international trips. Champions in the Primary and Secondary categories earned exclusive trips to Korea, while Junior winners won a dream adventure at LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort.

Winning creations will be showcased at MINILAND, LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort until December 2025, giving visitors the chance to admire the creativity of Asia’s next generation.

A Platform for Regional Creativity

“We are thrilled to see the LEGOLAND School Challenge evolve into a truly regional platform. With finalists from four countries, this year’s edition is the most diverse yet. The Challenge not only grows in scale but also enriches the cultural and creative exchange among students,” said Cs Lim, Vice President of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort. “This expansion underscores LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort commitment to positioning Johor as the home of a competition that unites young builders across Asia, where creativity, collaboration, and innovation meet.”

Furthermore, anchored in LEGO’s DNA of learning through play, the Challenge provides students with an avenue to explore STEAM concepts, build confidence, and express creativity in ways that inspire peers and communities alike.
