According to World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the most common mental disorder. It involves a depressed mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time.

Depression can happen to anyone. Thus, it is important that we have certain establishment for helping those people dealing with mental disorders.
Makati Medical Center opens their newly established Esketamine Care Center. This center aims to provide professional intervention that can be a given to cases of depression. It was specifically for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and major depression with immediate suicide intent (MDSI).
The MakatiMed is the first and only hospital in the country and second in all Southeast Asia to offer an antidepressant therapy. The therapy will under the guidance and supervision of Carmina G. Bernando, M.D. She is MakatiMed’s Psychiatrist Mood Disorder specialist.
Dr. Bernardo stated that esketamine is mostly considered a medical breakthrough that has been newly approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). How it works is by modulating glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter that maintains memory, cognition and mood regulation.
“The launch of MakatiMed’s Esketamine Care Center is a bold step forward for psychiatric treatments in the Philippines. Esketamine is a groundbreaking new treatment that provides unprecedented relief for depressive symptoms,” said Saturnino P. Javier, M.D., co-president, CEO and medical director of MakatiMed.
He also stated that the patients who have already received esketamine therapy outside the country has given them effective way to mange their symptoms in first five years. They also hope that they will do the same here and same more precious lives.
