Bea Alonzo speaks about why she signed with new home GMA-7
The ABS-CBN Network has been the home of the actress for over two decades. But she broke the news when she signed a contract with another TV Network—GMA on July 1, 2021. This transfer allegedly gained statements from two known persons from ABS-CBN’s productions.
It was alleged that it was regarding her supposed television series on her former network—Kahit Minsan Lang. On the exact day, the actress signed the contract with GMA, ABS-CBN director Erik Salud made a comment about it. He said,
“…may project siya na nasimulan at na promote na prior pandemic.”
(…she already has started promoting and doing a project prior to the pandemic)
Also, another director from the network, Henry Quitain, made a Facebook post on July 2. It was said that he is also the director of a television series that Bea was supposedly be starring in. Henry stated,
“Hindi naman biro yung itatapon na lang na pera ng kompanya kasi iniwan mo na lang basta.”
(It is not a joke to just throw away the money of the company just because you left.)
However, on the other hand, another director from the same network took the side of the actress. Frasco Mortiz said that it was unfair to blame Bea for leaving the television series behind. According to him, a lot has happened just like the pandemic. Also, he said that there were changes made in the teleserye.
The director is now also part of the GMA Network.
On July 2, Bea Alonzo was interviewed by veteran news anchor Jessica Soho. In Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho that aired on July 4, the actress was asked why she left her former network. Bea answered,
“Nung 2020, hindi naging madali para sa lahat, sa buong mundo, because of the pandemic. Nagkaroon ako ng chance para pag-isipan kung ano talaga ang nasa puso ko. But then, nung dumating yung offer ng GMA, it came at the right time and it just felt right. I follow my heart. Pag magaan, tama.”
(In 2020, everything has been very difficult for everyone around the world because of the pandemic. I had the chance to think about what my heart tells me. But then, when the offer of GMA came, it came at the right time and just felt right. I follow my heart. If it feels good, it means the decision is correct.)
Bea also shared that her talk with the executives of ABS-CBN was not easy. In addition, she mentioned that her transfer to GMA was not without a blessing from the ABS-CBN bosses.
“Pati yung pagpapaalam ko sa ABS-CBN, of course, it was very, very emotional because, siyempre, tahanan ko ‘yon for 20 years. Gusto kong mag-focus ngayon sa positibo, and alam ko in my heart na I got the blessing of my past bosses. I know na wala akong tinapakang tao. And moving forward, yung mga nakikilala kong mga bagong tao sa bagong yugto ng buhay ko, they’re all excited. I’m very, very grateful sa lahat ng… lahat, lahat ng opportunities na ibinigay nila sa akin.”
(Even my farewell to ABS-CBN, of course, it was very, very emotional because it was my home for 20 years. I want to focus on the positive things, and I know in my heart that I got the blessing from my former bosses. I know that I didn’t step on anyone in the process. And moving forward, the new persons that I met in the new chapter of my life are all excited. I’m very very grateful to all the opportunities that they gave me.)
Meanwhile, on July 1, Bea released a video through her YouTube channel before signing the contract with GMA. The video was entitled NEW BEGINNINGS. In the video, she looked back to when she started in showbiz until she was a prominent figure in the industry. The actress was very emotional while thanking her former TV network. Bea didn’t forget to acknowledge how ABS-CBN made her known.
“I have ABS-CBN to thank for all the opportunities they have given me. They have trusted and helped me hone my talent. And I will never forget everything that they have done for me. I will never forget the day when my life has changed because they trusted in me.”
The actress also mentioned her friends from the network whom she will be friends with until the end of time. Also, she shared why she decided to leave ABS-CBN.
“I am an actress. I am here to create. That is my purpose and that is my task. I owe that to my audience. And though goodbyes are always painful, I know that this journey will lead me to a door of many opportunities and new learnings and growth.”
In November 2020, Bea confirmed that her contract with ABS-CBN has already ended. She also left Star Magic—the talent management arm of the Kapamilya Network.
Currently, Bea’s new manager who looks after her career is veteran actress Shirley Kuan.
I just can’t help myself but fanboy over her and say that her decision for the growth of her career is never wrong. Bea Alonzo will remain one of the most versatile actresses of our generation. I hope fellow fans just support her in these vital points of her career.
