2016 K-Dramas That Are Worth The Rewatch

2016 is referred to be the best year of Korean drama series. From the casting of best actors and award-winning directors to addicting storylines gives us the thirst for more. The lineup indeed made 2016 a stellar year for Korean content. Now that they continue to get recognized globally, more and more are being produced. Although newer series have gained attention, avid K-drama viewers still believe in the power of the ones from 2016.

2016 K-Dramas That Are Worth The Rewatch

Descendants of the Sun

If we’re talking about 2016 K-dramas, you can never leave out Descendants of the Sun. The drama revolves around a story of a soldier and a doctor who tried dating after various encounters. Although it was a rough start for the two, they met again for a call of their professions. This is actually the first K-drama I watched, and I have been an avid fan since then. If you are a rookie in the K-drama world, I highly suggest this one.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

A 21st-century woman gets transported back to a thousand years ago to the Goryeo Dynasty. She finds herself engulfed in politics and a rivalry for love. This is a must-watch for those who appreciate shows that reflect hard truths. Aside from that, it also displays the reality of human nature. Even after so many years, viewers still hope for a second season of this drama (especially after the viral deleted scene).

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo

Inspired by the real-life story of Olympic weightlifting champion Jang Mi-ran, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo is a coming-of-age sports drama. It stars Lee Sung-Kyung as the weightlifter, Kim Bok-joo. Nam Joo-hyuk portrays a swimmer, Jung Joon-hyung. This follows a friendship into a romance story that makes it refreshing and gentle to watch. #SWAG

The Legend of the Blue Sea

Based on a classic Joseon legend from Korea’s first collection of unofficial historical tales, The Legend of the Blue Sea is about a mermaid from the Joseon Dynasty who ends up in modern times. She, then, encountered a swindler who may have a connection to her past. Containing genres of romance, comedy, fantasy, and adventure. This is a good watch or rewatch.

W: Two Worlds Apart

W: Two Worlds Apart is about two people living in alternate realities; the actual one and the realm inside a comic book. This was a strong pack of action-thriller, adventure, fantasy, romance, comedy, and all you want to expect. The series is full of suspense that gets you hooked after every episode—no boring part.

Uncontrollably Fond

If you want a good cry for a K-Drama, then Uncontrollably Fond is perfect. This is about two classmates who were deeply in love, inseparable not until life circumstances drifted them apart. They met again as adults, and through time, things changed. They were not the people they used to be.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Do Bong-Soon is a young woman born with superhuman strength. In an encounter, she was seen fighting thugs by a gaming company’s CEO, who hired her as a bodyguard. As Strong Woman Do Bong Soon went on, their relationship grew not only as a boss-employee. This drama is cute and not so problematic; definitely a light watch.

Doctors

Doctors is a dose of life lessons about growth and maturity. The series reflects the true experiences of those in the medical profession and the social prejudice against one’s educational background and origin. It exposes how certain life experiences mold one’s personality.

Dr. Romantic 1

Dr. Romantic 1 revolves around the story of a famous surgeon with the nickname Hand of God. He is the most experienced surgeon in South Korea, and medical interns line up to learn from him. He reminds them of the value of fulfilling one’s dreams despite the struggles encountered in achieving them. Heads up! Season 3 may be on its way!

Hwarang: The Warrior of Youth

Hwarang: The Warrior of Youth depicts the story of Hwarang (an elite group of male warriors in the Kingdom of Silla). They become the Kingdom’s soldiers, where they develop their brotherly love. When the King died, the plot twisted as one of the candidates for the King’s throne was actually in Hwarang.

Now that I have reminded you of them, I know you get the feels and are preparing to binge-watch. My only question is, “Would it be 2016 without these dramas?” Definitely, no.
