Bruce Willis retires from acting after brain disorder diagnosis

Die Hard star Bruce Willis is ‘stepping away’ from acting after his aphasia diagnosis, according to a statement released by his family on Wednesday, March 30.

Aphasia is a brain disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate verbally or through writing. According to the National Aphasia Association, it affects an estimated 2 million people in the United States.

Rumer Willis, the actor’s daughter from ex Demi Moore, posted on Instagram that the condition has impacted her father’s cognitive abilities.

According to Adam Boxer, a professor of neurology at the University of California — San Francisco, aphasia generally occurs after a head injury or stroke. It cuts off the blood flow to areas of the brain responsible for communication.

However, Willis’ family did not specify the details of the actor’s condition and the what caused it.

Accordingly, several colleagues commented on Demi Moore’s IG post, including actresses Jaime Lee Curtis and Debi Mazer.

“Grace and guts! Love to you all!” replied Curtis.
