Alamat advocates for self-reliance through ABKD, their newest single
In the roster of various talents establishing the growing prospect of the P-Pop scene, Alamat, harnessing diversity, long chimed in. Debuted with a self-written track in 2021, the group hallmarked the showcase of Filipino culture and sensibilities since then.
And to celebrate their first anniversary last February 14, Alamat recently released a new single that is also their first of the year. This upbeat masterpiece is entitled ABKD.
Let ABKD be the melody of our confidence
Looking at the current discography of Alamat, it is not an assumption how they designate music not only for romance. To mention, apart from their debut entry ‘kbye’ and rendition of ‘Porque’ that are love songs, there goes their ‘Kasmala.’ A composition denouncing colonialism and hate towards Filipinos by the Americans.
Going in the same direction but on a positive note this time, the members gift us ABKD. Consist of a high-spirited tune supplementing uplifting lyrics, the anthem gives you instant reassurance and energy. Being the primary exploration of the P-Pop ensemble on a bouncy tracklist, how they nailed it says otherwise.
Moreover, the song is multilingual as their signature. Aside from main parts in Filipino, other verses are in Ilocano, Ilonggo, Cebuano, Pampango, Waray, Bikolano, and Zambal. But overall, the presence of these diverse elements makes up an entirely pleasing harmony.

On Twitter, the official account of Alamat through a thread revealed some fun facts about the new single. Before ABKD happened, it was supposedly an English puppy love song called L-U-V. Later on, they changed the theme to empowerment while retaining its youthful vibe.
Meanwhile, a local eagle dance referenced from various parts of the Philippines is said to inspire the pre-chorus choreography of ABKD. Members of Alamat even bopped to Love on Top by Beyonce as a practice to happy dancing. And we see good results!
After its release, ABKD harvested praise from fans for being a meaningful song that shatters negativity while promoting loving oneself. The music video was also highly applauded for sending the song message through the representation of an Aeta girl.
A rhythm that everybody needs, ABKD is the music to acknowledge our strength, capacity, and well-being.
What is next for Alamat?
On February 27, Viva Artists Agency announced unfortunate news that saddened the fans. A member, Valfer, has officially departed Alamat as he moves on to new opportunities.
Despite this sudden incident, the seven remaining members of the group will continue on track. Carrying on are Taneo, Mo, Jao, Tomas, R-Ji, Gami, and Alas in the service of fans.
Alamat is among the front lineup revealed for the much-awaited P-Pop Convention in April this year. Currently, they are also on the horizon of releasing a new segment on their YouTube Channel.
