Spotify Premium now allows you to host listening parties with your friends!

As the government is placing some areas under MECQ, we might want some options to entertain ourselves.  It will be harder with this kind of situation, but we can still connect with our friends and family. One way is through music since Spotify has released a new feature called “Group Session” so you and your squad can listen to songs and podcasts at the same time. How cool is that?

Party with your friends even they are far away

Remember, you must have a premium account to enable this feature and it works up to groups of five. Any person in the streaming party can pause, play, skip, or select tracks in the queue.  Party members can add their own choices of music too.  Spotify said any changes will instantly reflect across all devices in real-time. However, there’s no chat feature so you and your friends will have to use another chat app to talk with each other.

To start a listening party, you can search for the option in the Connect menu, located on the bottom left corner of the play screen. After that, simply tap on the green “Start Session” button. You can send friends or family the link over social media and messaging so they can join you.

Spotify revealed the Group Sessions feature as a tool for hosting face-to-face parties. Way back in May, hosts can share a Spotify Code that their guests scan to join the party. The streaming service company noted that the feature is still in beta so it can possibly “evolve”  as time passed by. The company has been building its premium user features for years to gain more subscriptions.

What are your thoughts on hosting a listening party through Spotify? Do you think this will be part of our new normal?
