After 19 years of service, Yahoo has announced that it is planning to shut down its online platform Yahoo Groups on December 15 due to a “steady decline” in the number of its users.

In a report of Izzy Lee aired on “Stand for Truth,” Yahoo Groups was launched in 2001 and was the largest message board system where users may post messages, upload files and photos, and create mailing lists.

The announcement from Verizon was made last October 14, on the Yahoo [Groups] site, and in emails sent to Yahoo Groups users. In fact, Verizon purchased Yahoo in 2017 for $4.5 billion.
“Yahoo [Groups] has seen a steady decline in usage over the last several years. Over that same period, we’ve witnessed unprecedented levels of engagement across our properties as customers seek out premium, trustworthy content.”
“[T]hough beginning December 15 messages will not be sent or received from your group members. If you try to email your group after December 15, your message will not be delivered and you will receive a failure notification.”

Meanwhile, Yahoo clarified that the Yahoo Mail account will not be affected.

“The only thing being decommissioned is Yahoo [Groups] (groups.yahoo.com) and emails sent from Yahoo Groups. Yahoo Mail will continue to function normally.”
