Facebook will be soon combining Instagram DMs with Messenger chats

Are you that kind of person who jumps from Messenger to chat a friend then goes back to Instagram to slide a DM? Well, if you often use these two apps, you might probably like the update Facebook is going to have. As social media announced today, it is finally going to merge the two messaging platforms!

Seamless private messaging across two popular platforms

What does it mean for users like us? It will have cross-platform messaging that will enable Instagram users to send private or direct messages to Facebook users. The same thing goes for those who use Facebook. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg explains that they’ve been working on this since last year. That time, he shared their vision for a social network that focuses on privacy. He explained that private messaging is one of the fastest-growing forms of communication. On Facebook for example, people send over 100 billion messages every day.

He added further, “We’ve heard from people that your conversations get fragmented across different apps, and it’s not always easy to know where to reach someone or where to find a certain chat thread. So we’re connecting the Messenger and Instagram experience so you can easily connect with the people you want across apps.”

Many features to come along with the merge of these two

However, it seems that there’s more to this plan. In addition to integrating the Messenger experience onto Instagram, users can also expect 10 new features on the app. This includes chat colors, selfie stickers, emoji reactions, vanishing messages. Facebook is allegedly also rolling out a Watch Together feature for Messenger.

With these upcoming improvements, users can soon watch videos from IGTV and Facebook Watch together with their friends during a video call.

According to a source, Facebook is currently testing the new features on select markets. Until then, we have no idea when they are going to implement the changes. Let’s just wait for it!
